I thought I'd seen on here somewhere where somebody made a stand for their post hole digger. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif In a brief search I coulnd't find it. I'm not even sure I saw it here. After drilling around 3000 +/- holes this spring with my PHD, I want to put it up and not see it for a while. We are currently not friends. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The problem is, how the heck do you put one up? Even with 2 people, it seems to be chomping at the bit to take someone's finger off. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'd like to build some sort of stand for my PHD, but was hoping to get someone else's input on ideas. Anyone have any ideas?

#1 -- Hang it from a rafter in the barn. It makes it easier to put on too.

#2 -- Take a 55 gallon drum, cut it about 2/3 way up, fill the bottom half with sand. Drill the PHD into the sand, disconnect it from the tractor and let the auger bit hold it in place.

#3 -- Do a better search on TBN, several members have made stands, I'd like one too so when you make yours, consider it a prototype and made a second one for me! Someone made one out of plumbing pipe and just screwed it together, it was mounted to a plywood base with wheels so he could roll it around.

I use a chain hoist and hanging from the rafters. After the PHD is unhooked I swing it over to the side and secure it to the wall so I can get to the rest of the barn. It is stil handy to have someone around when putting it back on but I have managed to do it by myself.

I use 1" nylon strap (the rachet hold down kind) hung in a tree. Loop it a coupla times around the top of the frame, lower the 3PH and disconnect. Cheap and easy. Plus, its behind the shed so I don't see it!

I just spray the PTO coupler with wd40 when I'm ready to hook it up again.

Maybe I am just lazy. I just dug a hole where I store it and leave it in the hole. It is a piece of cake to connect and I have had no unusual rust or corrosion problems yet.

I'm sick of my PHD, but as much as I currently dislike it, I don't want to try to dig through 10" or more of concrete. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I like the idea of trying to make some sort of stand so I can store it so it can easily (relative term) reinstall it when needed. The problem is that even with a fairly large CUT is that I only have a couple inches of ground clearance at max lift. I've tried each setting possible, but that is all I can get. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey, anyone want a deal on one? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dargo - If you can stand to drill 2 more holes - put a couple of posts in the ground about 2' deep, and about 4' apart. Drill an 1 1/2" hole trhough both posts near the top (figure out where by backing the PHD in between the posts). Get a 1" diameter pipe to slide through the holes. Back in, slide pipe between auger and frame, lower PHD onto pipe, disconnect, drive off. Hangs off the ground and out of the way.

Now that's a neat idea I hadn't heard before! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I hang mine with a rope in the rafters.

I made one, and posted a topic on the same thing a bit back.

I need to go get the pictures of the thing. I will speak to the boss about using the camera.

I welded mine up from some extra heavy fence pipe I had laying about. What was different with mine was I support it with 2 chains. This holds everything at the right height and attitude to rehook. I do not have the Pat's quite yet, but let my wife start cussing to hook up the box blade again and I bet there is a set in the mail! And the stand we have should work beautifully with pats system.

Let me work on getting some pictures, I find the one I made very nice.

One other point though, is that we are all working with a different set of restrictions. Some do not weld, some are working with less money, some are working on concrete, and the particular thing that usually makes my stuff different from what I see here is that my wife is a landscaper and we are often working on others property. Therefore, my stand is light enough for one person to throw on the trailer, the box blade goes on the front of the trailer and the rake, and the PHD goes on the tractor then on the trailer, and away she goes. Also, my wife does 90% of the work, so I try to make it suitable for her use even when she does not realize it.

I will try and get some pictures tomorrow. Will ask about the camera tonight.

OK, after a couple of days of screwing around with computers and 3 different photo editing programs and a fair amount of cussing I think I have this thing sorted out. Now if they will just attatch I will be golden. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
