To All; This past weekend, [upnorth ofcourse], I thought I was going to have to put down my Malamute, Una. She was drinking massive amounts of water and passing huge puddles. She looked like death warmed over. We usually have her with us up there, but this time it was a neccesity. She had been going downhill for a week or so. We had been giving her glucosamine for her arthritis for about a month.
Luckily my wife, who is the smart RN she is, thought about any changes we had made in her diet etc. It dawned on us the glucosamine. We quit giving her the glucosamine immediatley on Saturday morning. Now it's Tuesday evening and luckily she appears back to normal.
I mentioned where we were because with no available vet around, it was going to have to be me to put her down. I'm 53 years old and was in tears. She is just a great dog to have with you. I'm sure glad the RN in the family was there.
The point of this is, maybe you guys should beware of glucosamine also. You don't want to feel like I was this weekend.
