Engine rpms started surging up 1 to 200 rpms lasting 3 to 5 seconds long before returning to normal and doing this every 20 to 30 seconds and sometimes every 10 to 20 minutes.Very random. Engine lost power last november. Replaced inline filter from tank to lift pump. Drained & cleaned tank. Installed new oem lift pump. New fuel filter. The tractor recovered power but the rpm problem was still there. In April 2023 the rpm problem developed a rapid ticking noise at the height of the rpm rise somewhere in the water pump area then returned to normal and this noise became a common occurrence off and on. In May 2023 the tractor slowly started losing power again so I pulled the injection pump and had it rebuilt. Tractor returned to normal power but still with the annoying rpm and ticking problem. Checked for broken valve springs and they were fine. It's now mid July 2023 and the tractor has worked with normal power for about 30 hours but it still has the rpm and ticking symptoms. I fear these symptoms could eventually cause some expensive engine damage. The question is what could randomly raise the rpms slightly with a ticking noise in the front upper location of the engine? Any ideas? I'm stumped!
