No Federal tax break that I know about. Idaho will let your write off some/all of the stove cost over 4 or 5 years IF it replaced another wood heating device OTHER than an open hearth fireplace (they consider that a non-heating device). Might be worth it to check into your state tax laws.

Marster,
I know the area , my wife has relative that live in Dillsburg, nice area the sun shines more on that neck of the woods in pa. I doubt Rendall will give us any break, infact they are pushing for a increase on fuel tax and want to add a tax to heating oil. He wants everybody to have a windmill and use electric, and invest in slots or the lottery.

I know pellets have increased in price ,but not like heating oil that changes every day. Plus if you have space you can stockpile pellets easier than fuel oil and they won't spoil. Good luck with your purchase and stay warm . :)

Thanks! I will check into it. Gov Rendell keeps talking going green. What better way to go green then to buy a pellet burning stove!

Thanks again.

Yes, Dillsburg is a nice place to live. I just saw on the news last evening where they are pushing for more taxes on gas and fuel oil. Hopefully this wont go any where. What is he thinking? With prices as high as they are now, and then to tax us even more........ he's nuts!

I bought a p23 Breckwell. From what I read them appear to be a good stove. Hope to have mine installed next week. Do you know anyone who has this stove? Bought it from Coal Energy Plus in New Cumberland. Great people to deal with.

I never really looked into all the models, I purchased mine at a box store half off and figured I had nothing to loose and lucked out. Post a pic after you get it installed and I am curious on the level of noise of the blower motor.
If I could get one with less noise I would replace the stove I have now to my shop.

I will be in you area Montgomery County, Upper Dublin Twp. Friday , hope I do not hit snow out your way .

Thanks for the reply. Went to a few dealers yesterday. Only one was a Thelin dealer. I am in Souther York County in Dillsburg Pa.

I scapped the idea of buying a Thelin and tossed around a Enviro Empress or a Breckwell P23. I ended up purchasing the Breakwell P23 because the dealer gave me a good price and it appears it will more than well heat my home. (1500 sq feet) Any comments on this stove or my choice. I apprecate all feedback.

I know what you're saying about heating oil. My tank is an outside tank. I always burnt kerosene but this year switched to fuel oil with an additive to prevent gelling.........IT"S STILL TOO MUCH! Iam trying to get away from depending on OIL. I just hope our gov doesnt start regulating pellets!! Is there any tax credits for purchasing a pellet stove?

Appreciate all comments. Can't wait for it to be installed!!! Hopefully within 2 weeks or less.

Let us know how the breckwell does. I know about the pains of oil right now. I've been using offroad diesel, at the pump it is over $.25 gallon less than heating oil.

Had the stove installed last Wed. It's great! I have app. 1.500 sq ft in a well insulated home. It heats the entire home with ease. I love it!!! The only issue I have to watch is making sure my pipes do not freeze. My home is a doublewide and the furnace helps to heat the under belley. Until I can get my home furnace set up to run just the fan, I keep a close eye on my water pipes by letting the water run alittle......but besides that, it's wonderful!! Well worth the investment. Use about 1 bag of pellets a day. ($4.25 for a 40# bag) Much cheaper than oil at 3.20 a gallon. Just heard on the news last evening that home heating fuel is suppose to be dropping. Hopefully off road diesel will drop as well. I cant imagine how truckers, farmers, etc are able to bear this extra cost.

Interesting thread. I tried this fall to purchase a pellet stove from two different dealers. Both told me that I wouldn't save any money using pellets vs propane. They said I would have the same amount of money in either fuel. both wanted to lead me to a wood stove or Pellet Coal stove. Problem is I don't have a chimney. the pellet stove would be ideal since it only takes the exterior vented cap out the wall. I gave up after discussions with both dealers. Are you pellet stove users experiencing cost savings over your other fuel source. Sounds like others are also using propane.

Propane for me is $2.62/gal and pellets are $220 a ton. 1 gallon of propane produces 91690 btu's, the pellets I get are rated at 8900 btu's per pound. So it takes 10.4 pounds of pellets to equal 1 gallon of propane... or $1.44 versus $2.62 making wood pellets cost about 55% that of propane. Obviously appliance efficiency comes into play but both of mine are rated about the same... plus the propane furnace has duct loss while the wood pellet heat is all inside the house.

I went from 3 or 4 fills a winter on my 500 gallon propane tank to none in 3 years.

You really have to run your own numbers... my pellet stove was an insert and costly... will take 4.5 to 5 years to pay for itself.. which it is doing handily at current propane prices. After the pay off period its all gravy.

I've got to believe you're also warmer. We keep our house at 64 most of the time in the winter. that takes us 4 to 5 250 gal tanks per year. I was hoping to save on the cost of propane and get warmer. Seems to me from what everyone here is saying I should be able to accomplish both. I'll have to go back and check with the dealers again.

One of the problems is that we have a propane fireplace and that's where i want to put the pellet stove. The fireplace is a zero clearance unit and everyone shys away from an installation due to not being able to place an insert in the opening and the cost of reconstructing the opening for a floor model.

Thank you for the input.
