You're are correct about the spelling. It's renovator. I was trying to make sure I was getting my points across and didn't
check the spelling.

Thanks

I didn't know either HH, and I wouldn't have even if the spelling had been correct. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What's the purpose of this device? Is it basically like aeratiing the lawn? We have a device similiar to the one on hayking's website (with a bunch of springs) on the farm, but in thirty years I never saw my grandfather use it. It's just sitting now rusting in the (now also unused) siliage pit. Maybe I can use this renovator (if that's what it is) on my pastures. I'll try to get a picture of it and you can help me figure out what it is.

It is not like an aerator, but tears up the sod. See the site mentioned and click on the 'pasture renovator' for a great picture. An aerator punches holes.

Your farm 'find' sounds like a spring-tooth harrow. It may not penetrate pasture sod very well. We used to use it to work up tilled soil and weed spots. Might give it a try however, and see if it will work for you.
Pics if you do /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Also check out Sweet Equipments website, and look at the Farnham renovator (If it's still on his site) It was an earlier attempt at what HayKing is marketing now, but with a fertilizer/lime spreader built on to the unit.

Pastures tend to get VERY compacted. Grass can't root, water can't drain through the soil, which compounds the problems. A "renovator" is simular to a zone builder crossed with a chisel plow. They do an excellent job of improving soil structure.

I took the camera to work with me so that I could stop and take pics of that implement. Too bad the battery was at home in the charger. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think you're correct about it being a harrow. That's what I've always considered it to be. If I get a chance to take some pics in the next couple of days I will post them.
