I'm not a computer whiz by any means but I've been using one 6-8 hours/day since the 8086 days and I'll be danged if I can figure out how to paste pictures in with the text in a message in this forum. Just when I decided it couldn't be done, someone did it recently (Twinkletoes maybe?). For that matter, I can't seem to include multiple photos in the attachments. I've tried commas, colons, semicolons, etc between the file names but when it gets posted, there is only one there. I have a new tool box post to make but don't want to do my usual trick of doing multiple messages since I have several pictures. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry...

Larry -

To learn how to include an image with your message text, read this section of the FAQ page. Use the "image" markkup tags (in square brackets, of course).
It is not a "pasting" operation, but rather a reference to an image file that already exists on a server somewhere. In other words, you must upload the image file to a server (as happens when you "attach" a file) first, then use it's network address (url) in an image markup tag.

Note -- at one point Muhammad recommended that only small images be included in a message for performance reasons. He does not enforce this (he's just too darn polite /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif), but maybe he could re-state his guidelines for us (Muhammad -- you out there?).

An attachment, as far as I know, is a single file. When you see what appears to be multiple images in an attachment, it is actually a single picture file that someone has created with local software (I use Adobe Photoshop) to create a montage of images.

Now that I've said all this, I think I should have left this one for Muhammad, who not only knows the "real" truth, but has a way of explaining things better. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Like Harv said, it is in the FAQ, how to put the photo in the message. If it got to the point that too many people were placing images inside the messages that the loading of the threads got too slow, we would probably have to think about letting it go on. I still would encourage the image to be attached, and that way the threads are loaded as text only, and if one wants to see the attached image, they may do so through the link, which shows only the attachment. So yes you can do it (simple use the image markup tag found in the FAQ) but I would say don't post huge photos. Some users post small images that are small in size and file size, so that really don't matter a lot. But in terms of photos of tractors and such, we would rather see them stay as attachments.

Attaching multiple files isn't possible right now, although we might work on this at some point ---either the option to attach more than one file, or completely separate 'picture poster' and 'file poster' utilities for use in conjunction with the forum. We'll think about that soon probably... we have a bunch of small new features and a new e-mail notification system in the works right now.

Well, I was afraid this would happen; that I would expose my ignorance to the world only to have the answer right in front of me all the time. But, I guess that's the way it goes. I've looked at the FAQ, even printed it out for handy reference, and still missed the line beginning with [image]. I've reduced the size of most of the photos to 8-10 kb so they shouldn't come close to exceeding the 500k limit. Thanks Muhammad and Harv!

In that case (8-10k images)... there probably won't be a problem.

Re: Don\'t bother to read this

My thanks also to Harv and MarkChalkley. I'm not yet worthy of a Chalkley cup behind my signature, besides it would freeze solid right now. Maybe we should have a .gif tractor pull. Trouble is, the only person capable of orchestrating it is Harv and I already know what color the winner will be /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

MarkCG2000 -

When I saw a message titled "Don't bother to read this", I naturally jumped on it with both feet. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Anybody's welcome to my doodles, but watch out -- I do own the copyright on the letter 'L'. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Don\'t bother to read this

When Harv mentioned it.... I was thinking what's he talking about?? Of course, in quick viewing I only view the thread title and not the titles of the messages below. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Ohh, now I see. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
