Part D prescription plan

When I turned 65, my employer funded Medicaid supplemental health insurance kicked in, and it also covers ears, eyes and teeth. I have no premiums to pay and no up front costs every year. It's been that way for retirees for over 50 years.

Nope! I hate Advantage plans. They siphon $$ off medicare to line the pockets of insurance companies.

It is a plain Medicare supplement (Medigap) and drug plan D. It is NOT an Advantage plan. Their customer support has been excellent but seldom needed. They sent us a mailer telling us that we hadn't been using our dental and vision benefits! I couldn't believe they did that, but I guess they want to retain customers.

Just checked and no go in the San Francisco Bay Area…

I should not be surprised because what’s offered elsewhere seldom is here.

I have Humana plan N .I pay $98.93 per mo. My part D is through Humana also which cost me $40.00 per mo. My dental is with Cigna @ $35.00 per mo.
With my son being in healthcare, advised me to stay clear of any disadvantage plan

Like with most things there are pluses and minuses…

Regular Medicare doesn’t have the same pre authorization as advantage plans but advantage plans may provide you with dental or a ride for medical care.

The deal breaker is most accept Medicare but the pool of providers accepting advantage plans is shrinking.

yes, I understand Advantage plans offer what they claim to be perks, but they come at a cost.. co-pays for surgeries, test (MRI's etc,) Hospital stays, etc,. If you go out of your home state, you may not be covered, or you may be out of network and cost you much more out of pocket.
Also, as you probably know, Advantage plans are year to year contracts between you and the advantage plan. What perks, and co-pays you have today, could be gone the next contract yr. Same with doc's and hospitals, doc's and hospitals can and do drop advantage plans.
As per my son, They usually don't reimburse Doc's / hospitals as well as original Medicare and a supplement ..This is the reason he refers to them as disadvantage plans LOL

I found that an Advantage plan with Part B giveback a great deal. It gave me Dental coverage that Medicare does not and in my case VA covers my medical/prescription anyway (but no dental). Many lower income people (but not those with low enough net worth able to get medicaid) struggle to pay the $174 part B so a giveback amount against it makes it possible to have some amount of healthcare insurance versus not paying for Medicare.

Those folks able to buy full ride medicare supplement policies are in a different boat than others.

My wife and I have the "F" plan through Bankers Fidelity. She is four year older than I am. Hers runs 420, mine 220. We used to have our part D through Silverscript. I first changed only hers to Anthem Mediblue Rx Plus then the following year I kept hers on the Anthem plan but changed mine to Humana Value Rx.

She is on Eloquis and come about Nov of last year, we ended up getting samples from our cardiologist to get to Jan 1st due to the cost.

For 2025 my Humana plan goes from 39.10 down to 30.30. Her Anthem plan goes from 94.70 down to 87.10. I just started trying to discipher the changes.

For dental, I am fortunate to have UK's school of dentistry where as my wife is on an in-house plan though her dentist which is doable cost wise. Better than through any plans.

We log every trip to our doctor's. I think it was .22/mile that we could deduct on our federal taxes. Between our plan costs, etc., we can reach the deductable.

We both mostly see the same doctor's so it makes little sense for me to use the VA for other than my hearing aids or I would go there. That and it's a 75 mile one way trip.

One thing that I suggest is to follow your covered costs. Make sure that when you have a procedure, that you present your plans and that they are noted.

I had a hospital come back two years after my wife had surgery claiming that we had no secondary policy. My wife is hearing impaired and does not use a phone. (Caption Call does not work here, our phone line is too noisey) So, they would not talk to me. Twice, they never got my hppa form? Turned out they submitted improper forms to our secondary. Not sure why but after I sent my info to Medicare, I never heard from the hospital again?

I always go over our Medicare statements but not always the secondary. I do now. Also, I did report to Medicare at least three times that Covid tests kits were on our statements that we did not order nor receive. So watch for incorrect charges which effect everyone tax wise however trivial.

Turns out my (Medica) part D is going up $20/mo. I think the legislating limiting max out of pocket t $2,000 has a lot to do with it. My agent said I should ask my pharmacy to run a Part D Prescription Drug Cost Calculator for me. It will show my total drug and premium costs for all kinds of plans. My pharmacist said he can do it after October 15.

If you go to the official medicare web site you can view and compare every plan offered in your county. I just finished looking at my options tonight.
My current one would go up to $66 per month with a total cost for 2025 of about $2700,
I found another that should be just under $2000 for the year.
You can put in all your meds and it will show you the monthly and annual cost for each plan.

Yep,
I can do it, or my agent can do it, but he said it's easier to have your pharmacy do it.

I guess I just may be different as I don't trust anyone to find out whats best for me, especially when it's fairly easy for me to check out all the available options for me including different pharmacys.
There were only 12 different plans available in my county. But the annual cost with all my prescriptions added in varied from $1980 to over $2700, I do take 8 different prescriptions at this time.

I'm going to guess that you have an Advantage Plan, if I went with one of those it would cost me less. But I don't like the limitations it has.

My Wellcare also decreased to 0.00/mo. Annual deductible same as yours. All my current meds are still priced same as last year with only one that has a small copay. My wife's current meds also did not increase in copay
