Parking - in the new day an age - Rant

Nothing irks me more in a parking lot than to look down a row of cars and seeing a vehicle sticking 2-3 feet out into the isle further than everyone else.
Really needs common sense involved tho also.
Flip side is back tires against the curb and the long box with a 12" receiver hitch hanging over the sidewalk.

In today's World I don't need population growth which brings retail options. I can Google search, order online and UPS will hand it to me on my front porch within a few days. And it has no strings attached of crowded population.
Online is fine for some items, especially if you don't need them right away but not others. I like to see the merchandise...get an idea of the quality ahead of time. Not everything is as described, and not everything is well-described online to begin with. It can be a hassle to exchange/return online stuff, time consuming at the very least. I wouldn't buy clothes or shoes online.

I'm not talking about having suburbia move to the boonies, but it would be nice to have more than one supermarket to choose from (for example).

Just because you can get a handicapped placard doesn't mean you should. Based on my limited observation at work and at stores probably 80% shouldn't park in handicapped spots.

If you aren't using a cane or in a wheelchair you don't need the placard.
May my cane be the one you trip over some day as I'm trying to get my breath back or trying to relieve my back

I often park my long bed truck butt in. Not only is it easier to get out of, but I can back it into a tighter spot than I can go forwards into, and if there's room the tail of the truck can go a few feet past the end of the parking space (and occasionally over the front bumper of a smaller car - hey we can share this space right? - just can't expect to get in the back of my truck if I do that!).
Definitely prefer parking out in BFE and walking, but even that doesn't guarantee lots of space sometimes.

With my F150 long bed I almost always back in if there is a car on both sides. The backup camera I put in also helps a lot. Even though it's a standard cab the turning radius is pretty long.

I had a woman try to scam me for money by claiming I dented her car with my door. First, she was not there when I parked. Second, I opened my door and showed her it did not line up with her dent. She kept at it, so I went off on her. "Bad vibes, honey? When I start to vibrate, you will know it." When I started shouting for her to get away from me, she gave up. I have an outdoor voice that can match most PA systems. I should have called the cops on her. The next victim may not be so hard to push around.

The painters don't determine the spacing, they just follow the work orders. Some engineer...
I will bet good money it wasn't an engineer. Most of us are car guys, and the few that aren't are fastidious enough about anything mechanical, that we don't want the door dings!

My first new vehicle was a 1983 Ford Ranger, the first year that they came out with them. I waxed it every weekend and kept it looking good. One day I came out of a small store when an old faht dressed for church got out and slammed his door into mine so hard that the entire truck shook. I got out screaming, and he said "Show me the dent". Although I always tried hard to park it someplace safe, there were so many door dings in it that I couldn't pick out which one as his.

Sometimes you just can't help parking in a tight spot if in a small store. If I am close enough to somebody else that I might hit it, I will put my hand on my door edge as a protector... just in case.

I believe that one reason for such small spots is that businesses need a certain amount of parking to get permits to open a store. By only accomodating small vehicles, they can meet their quota.

Years ago I worked with somebody who had a large family. He came to New England to work every summer and drove a big 4 door F250 with an 8 foot bed. I went to dinner with him one night and the only spot available left the rear portion of his truck blocking one entrance. He felt that he was entitled to do so because he drove such a big megalith. I have always felt that is your choice, and sometimes it requires making concessions such as walking farther.
