I was out doing some clearing last weekend, when I noticed the parking brake light was on. The brake was not on, I stopped set the brake, released it again and the light still would not go off. Is there a plug or switch that I could check?

yes, there is a switch connected to your brake pedal.

This part could be faulty or it just could be that it's stuck in the "out" position. The part is located next to the underside of the brake pedals and is connected with a small spring. Look around at all the springs and linkages underneath and you'll see it.
