I am building a fork implement for my tractors 3 point hook up. A widow friend who has 4 sets of used forks, lengths start at 36" & end at 53", most are in good shape & some are heavier duty than others some are rusty(not serious). My question is, what should I offer her for any 1 pair of the clip on type? I see new ones starting in the $300 range.

Half price of new is considered fair in my neck of the woods. At auction, you'll often pay a good bit more than that.

Ok, that's something to think about. I was thinking of offering 40-60% of a what new might cost me.

I hate to sound like Mr. Obvious here, but I'd suggest you just ask her what she wants for a pair of them. That's always a good starting point. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If you feel her number is too far off the market for you to be comfortable you can always suggest a different number then.

Treesawer,

You might search for a post I started called "Post your pictures of forks". It has lots of pictures.

Mine are 3pt. I didn't build them to the CAT I quick hitch standard, so they don't fit my Speeco quick hitch. Bad mistake. My new loader (finished installing it today) has a bobtach type bucket mount. My next trick will be to rework my forks so the mount will work with a quick hitch and aso a bobtach. This way it can be quickly installed front or back.

I paid $125 for 48" very good condition forks from a man with a rrrreputation for selling things high. I think, however, that it is fair. If you don't buy them for $125 she probably will get $50 from someone who does not care about her. Good luck and post pictures.

Jim

I bought a pair of forks today at a salvage yard. $100.00 per fork and $50.00 for the mast where the forks mount.

Condition, length and heaviness of duty not withstanding, scrapyard price here is $100/pair. Some are in pretty good shape.

At a large auction at the GM plant where I work they sold 4K electric walk behind forklifts and I got one for $100.
Itook the forks and platen to make a Q-T set for my SSL, used the 2.5"X8" side shift cylinder for my top link,4 125# steel flat plate weights and 4 180# LEAD flat plate weights.
I was going to go the mast and 3 pt but the SSL forks work MUCH better.
I've got some other parts (2 hydraulic pumps and the tire assemblies to take off yet ) to remove then sell the other 2500# to the scrap yard.
Do all the forks use the same size platen (mount)??
If so I would get 2 sets one long and one short so u can inter change them later.
I'd try for $50-75/ set and could go up.
