I would like to hear opinions on what would be the best approach to prepping a concrete floor in My garage for painting. The dimensions are 24ft. x 46ft.

The concrete appears to have been previously sealed but I have it in My head to paint it with some sort of epoxy paint.(similar color of what was used to paint concrete porches)

Any and all suggestions are appreciated /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Attached is what I want My floor to like.

I preped according to the manufactures recommendations and had no good luck with car tires on the epoxy. It always pulled it up eventually. I tried a couple of different brands and types with no better luck. I had to eventually strip it and let it be etched and all! It could be that the floor was wet quite often from washing the dogs feet and such. But in our area the floor gets wet allot anyway from weather related stuff. I have heard other people having luck with it but no specifics.

Have you thought about Concrete stain? will not peal like paint - and you can get a dark stain to hide grease & other fun stuff.

Tom, I worked automotive for years and before I retired my dealership re-did the shop floor. It had to be stripped completely and then given an acid wash, they used a floor buffer and just kept changing the grit of the pads. Finally applied the epoxy finish with paint rollers. It was labor intensive and had terrible fumes and don't let it sit too long after you added the catalyst.

I love that building and floor that you attached. How big is it and where can I buy it? Is that epoxy on the floor?

Tried the stain first before the epoxy. I had better luck with the epoxy.

Did my garage floor with this about a year ago,DuPont 25P High Solids Epoxy Mastic. Great stuff
Prepped with miratic acid, I wish I would have filled cracks with a filler before coating though

Was Yours previously sealed?

I am somewhat apprehensive about getting paint to adhere since it has been sealed when it was poured.

Thanks, Tom

I called Dupont and they tell me they don't have any coatings that are recommended for floors.
Maybe I had better trash this bright idea of mine? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

This the reply I got by e-mail as well:

Sorry we no longer have a recommendation to paint floors of any
kind.

When you say sealed when it was poured, what do you mean? Are you talking about concrete 'cure' that is applied to new concrete? We are bulding contractors and use a lot of epoxy floor paint, but only on new concrete. When the building is finished we pressure wash the surface to remove the curing compound, sheetroc mud etc and then acid etch the surface. After several days drying time the 2-part epoxy coating is applied using rollers in two coats with 48 hrs between coats and temps >60 deg. I can tell you, that on new concrete at least, the finished surface is bullet proof after it has completely cured. Our painters use differernt brands, so I can't help you with that.
