Pacific North West - Excessive heat warning issued

Our neighbor lady is having her septic tanks pumped today. It's in the 50's and raining. Ground should be so frozen they couldn't dig up the septic lids this time of year. I used to go ice fishing on Christmas break. The back lawn could use a good mowing today, and if it wasn't raining, I'd do it.
Sorry about the ice fishing.

Kind of a sideways, quirky view of history, overlaid on global temperatures.
If you scroll through this extended timeline, I think that you will find that many of us were born in a post WWII temperature dip that made everything colder than the prior 50 years and the years since. (But I also still miss the Christmas snows of my youth.)

All the best,

Peter

Those in Western Oregon and Washington that feed our resident Annas Hummingbirds, don't forget to rotate feeders inside/outside to keep them thawed. I have two sets and rotate them to put out room temp food a few times during the day and first thing at dawn. I saw someone wrapped LED Christmas lights around theirs. I did not think LEDs put out much heat, but maybe so.

Edit: Anyone know why this would not work? I had an unused heat trace cable in the shop. End of the trace would go to a second feeder.

Put up a couple of Japanese maple branches on the porch columns day before yesterday near one of our feeders. Found this little guy last night, they go into a deep sleep and their heartbeat almost stops. I was about 4 inches from him for this picture. This morning at first light 6:30 AM, he was awake and flew off when I took the feeder out. Didn't go far and was right back to tank up. Been spending the day chasing off the other hummingbirds. We have two feeders and had to move the other one to the other side of the house to prevent him from guarding both.

Last night Zero equals nothing, right? 20-30 mph winds -22 to -26 wind chill. Even if it weren't broken, my open station tractor is staying in the barn.
Found out this morning there is about a half mile of drifts across the private road, according to my neighbor who is trying to dig out one section with a skid steer is about a 1/4 mile long and 4-6 feet deep.

I believe I have developed super natural powers to control the weather.
All I have to do is start the tractor up, drive about 12 feet, set my FEL on float for scooping snow, and with in one minute, a relatively clear day will turn into a driving, white out, snow blizzard. :)
I have those powers too. All I have to do is move someplace and we will get the worst winter in the last 20+ years. Definitely worked this time.

Its 7° here this morning. The neighbor called me last night and asked if i could plow out their place. Apparently he didnt make the paths wide enough plowing his place over past few weeks, and has no wheres else to push snow. Im going over today and blow out berms. So glad i have heated cab.

7:15 AM here. It's 8 F. You can tell it really cold outside. Everything has that blueish tint to it.

Dress warmly grsthegreat - you just might have colder weather coming your way.
