Pacific North West - Excessive heat warning issued

I sure wish y'all'd take some of this wet. Nearly every month now for going on 5 years, maybe more has been excess railfall. Some months just barely, but some months by double or more. Ground is often soggy, flooding is fairly common. Ground is often too wet to mow grass which is growing like crazy. I hate to mow it wet, but too many times there just isn't any choice.

My God - I spoke too soon. 7:15 pm... 93F.....1% RH. I wonder what happens if it hits 0% RH. We all turn to raisins.

Hmmm ....... 4pm - 95F - 1% RH. Continued weather like this is just asking for trouble.

The freaking wind sucks the moisture out of everything. I'm losing an inch a day out of the wading pool, which is in the shade most of the day.

I've had something like 5" of rain this week, maybe more. Humidity has been in the 70s and 80s. Pool is overflowing. Ditches are washing out. Grass thick and tall, but too wet to cut.

Now they are getting a lot of smoke too. It doesn't look like there is much there to burn. I hope not. Range fires can be ugly too. Farmers on the east end of The Gorge lost a lot of wheat to a wind driven range fire last year. This year it's already harvested, but I don't think the straw is baled yet.

This is drought. This is grasshoppers. This is our alfalfa hay field. This is what it looks like when you say you have no hay to put up this year. This is not over grazing. In fact, this field is our winter grazing, which will be none this year. This is why many ranchers are selling livestock. Even if they have hay, they don’t have grazing. Please pray for southeast MT, especially my area of Baker. We are in a world of hurt with no end in sight. - Philip N Andrea Huft

Speaking of the '30s, there is a great little book on it; "The Worst Hard Time". I found it a great reminder of how hard it is to look at a weather season and think "this is now the new normal..."

Great stories within the book, about a terrible time, made worse by human actions and politics.

All the best,

Peter
