i have a central boiler that i use to heat my house my hot water and my detatched garage. My friend is building a new house soon and likes my set-up but doesn't need the additional cost. I was interested to know if anyone has built their own outside boiler. He is looking for ideas.

I live in a house that is close to 100yrs old. It has the old radiator type heaters in each room. It was fired by a stoveoil furnace with a wood swimming pool heater as the main heater. My wife decided she wanted to put in an electric one in place of the oil, what a mistake. Anyway, we try to keep the wood one going and it does a good job for us. It has a 5in water jacket around the wood firebox with a water circulater in line. Works well.
I do like the idea of having an outside boiler. sounds like a great idea as it would keep the mess outside.
