The CFO and I went grocery shopping this afternoon. I stopped to pick up a half-gallon of ice cream in the freezer aisle. When to my surprise, a half-gallon is no longer two quarts. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I noticed the slightly smaller package and looked to see that it held 1.75 quarts. This has gotten to be a pet peeve of mine. The manufacturers do not have the (ah... gumption) to stand up and say they are increasing their price. No, they have to quietly shrink the package size and hope that it just goes unnoticed. Well, it hasn't... and I am outraged!!

What made it worse is that I returned the carton to the freezer and went to check the other brands. To my surprise, that have all changed. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Now...you can't tell me there has been no collusion when the all change package size at the same time. The CFO has heard me complain about this before. Tuna comes to mind as another example.

So a half gallon is now two liters? Same price? Or is it still a half gallon but for small values of the term gallon?
If it's two liters, how can they still call it a half gallon? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Welcome to the metric system, was a costly transition for consumers up here when we converted up here back in the'70s,there was profiteering coming from every corner. It sounds like its coming your way ,I suspect you wont hold out much longer with those gallons and yards ,pounds and the rest.
Steelers at the 15 meters line ,they are centimeters away from a first down /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

When i get extra i get mad! you design a project, have it all calculated, order what you want and when it turns up it is in imperial sizes 1200x2400 and you get 1220x2440 the sooner the USA change to metric the sooner this won't happen /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

30 years ago when I was going thru my apprentis training for a jounyman rating we were taught the metric system and we were told that the US would convert in 5 years or less but it never happened. I think that the auto industry stopped it. Would make thing a whole lot easier all around. Then I would not have to have 2 sets of wrenches.

Ahh... Cliff, I think your math is slipping. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Two liters is and has always been more than a half-gallon. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif 1/2 gallon is only 1.89 liters. 1.75 quarts is about 1.66 liters. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Do they advertise the package as a half gallon?

Hmm, I wonder if the Gasoline companies are going to convert the pumps over to Metric soon to hide another price increase ??

Oh yeah. Well, for small values of liter?

Actually, I not a big fan of metric. I used to be, but the more woodworking I do, the less I like it. I prefer a system where division by half easy. 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", 1/16" etc. People look at you funny when you say 1/16 of a centemeter. Interpolation is all about using halves and so is wookworking (and many other things). Tenths works well for money, but for measuring it's really not optimal. It's just not as easy to split the difference.

Just my opinion, not my religion.
