He crawled out of the burn pile after I lit it up. I smacked him a couple of times with the leaf rake. He's a bit skinny, hasn't fatten up since winter hibernation.

Looks like he missed his mouse quota..Glad he missed you and the dog too?

Copperheads are truly magnificent creatures, so beautiful. You had to kill him?

Darn sure glad we don't have them up here in the frozen north though! Although if our winter and spring seasons continue like this year... they'll be here soon enough.

My experience is they are one of the most aggressive snakes down here, maybe it is the heat. They will not hold or back-down if you get too close..I see a lot of them as hatbands, due to their pretty scales..or rattlesnake band.

Walking into the house last night in the dark, I actually was thinking "copperhead". Copperheads are the only snake I kill without 2nd thought, like Jony said, they seem to bite 1st.

Glad you posted some pictures, i got to see what they look like now. Don't see them often, but seen them out at the farm once or twice. It's was always hard for me to indenify them from water snakes.
