APRIL 2003. Medic 1 and Medic 2 responded to a farm-tractor / train accident north of McColl. Arrived on scene to find a John Deere tractor having been struck by a freight train. The tractor driver and train engineer both escaped injury. In the pictures below you can see the entire front of the tractor having been ripped off. The tractor motor, lying on the ground, was still running.

I can't seem to locate it in the pictures. Maybe someone familiar with this model can point it out. Where's the fuel tank? That motor can't keep running without a fuel supply...

If it had been a Kubota the train would have been broken in two.

It was probbaly running on its lubricating oil (ie: dieseling). The fuel tank on that size tractor is normally under the steps on one (or both) side(s) of the cab. Was probbaly torn off in this case (see the absorbent stuff on the road/tracks right in front of the tractor).

the fuel tank on that tractor is mounted at the front of the hood. The train must've been haulin' it sheared the frontend off and barely turned the rearend. The right front tire and axle bore most of the impact. where the tractor split is an oil bearing chamber so it is hyd oil on the ground.

I'm just trying to figure how some one would manage that!! Hard not to see a 1000 ton train!!

I dont have a clue where the gas tanks where, but I can see where they're not!!!
