Some good info in there. We've had to kill our wild grape vines because our lab/golden mix would chow down on the ripe grapes! He was never interested in them prior to this year, we had cut his rations to slim him down and I guess hunger took over;)
My old lab mix is in need of some slimming down as well, he defines the phrase "chow hound". Actually, his appetite is more orca-like, I have never seen a dog eat like this one. He was around 9-10 when we rescued him and he must to have had to fight for every morsel he ever ate. He will eat just about anything, I have to keep him out of the garden in the summer! He used to be quite the groundhog hunter but has since lost that burst needed to really overwhelm them out in the open. He can be walking through the field and all of a sudden he'll snatch a rabbit out of the brush, asap. What a nose! His name is Chucky, got that moniker from throwing up in the back of the Jeep on the way home from the shelter. He's a trip!
