You know, I have only had one bad experience over many years of mail order purchases.

This eveing I was thinking of how someone said something negative about ordering stuff "over the Internet."

Yes, my bad experience was from a vendor that I found "over the internet." But he was also a TBN advertiser!

So what does this mean? Nothing I suspect.

For example, if you bought something from a vendor you found in your local phone book, would you blame the phone book?

When you buy something that was advertised in the local newspaper, do you tell everyone you bought it from the newspaper?

I've concluded that when someone says "beware of buying things over the internet" they may be a bit off base. The real message is "Buyer beware" regardless of where you purchase something.

So what do you guys think? Do you fear buying "over the internet?"

Frankly I don't. I just fear buying from someone who lets me down. Which I think can happen here, there and everywhere... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I really don't have any problems with ordering over the net. The thing I worry about is I.D. theft. But, then again, that can happen right under your nose at a retailers place of business. So, it is definitely buyer beware. Gerard

I haven't had any bad luck ordering over the internet.
But, bought a retractable air hose reel that I didn't get mounted right away (had to build a bracket to hold it) and it never worked right. Afraid to try to tear it apart, and can't get any information in the way of directions to learn how to find out what is wrong. Something to do with the holding mechanism inside. It was made in Australia, and contact over the internet with the company came up blank.

I probably get 2-3 deliveries a month from internet orders. That isn't a lot, but it has been pretty good to me.

Henro guess we have never been concerned with Internet shopping. The wife and I do a lot of shopping on-line to save time and in some cases money as well. There is protection if you know what to do in case of a loss. We use credit cards or PayPal the majority of the time.

The only time we had a problem was when we made a purchase at eBay some years back and used PayPal to pay for the purchase including shipping and insurance. The seller said they sent the item but we never received it. Then we found out they didn't insure it either. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif We were eventually reimbursed from PayPal since the seller has to show proof that they sent the item by PayPal's rules, and without the insurance they couldn't. Most credit card companies also look out for the best interest of the card-holder. Send cash, check, or money order and you better be able to whistle Dixie because you just may.

I bought a police scanner that was defective and the seller agreed to replace the scanner plus refund the shipping charges($17). Received the new scanner but had a hard time getting the shipping out of them. I called my credit card company and they said if the scanner co. wouldn't settle with me they would credit me the money and go after them. My CC company said they will stand behind want I say. I called back the scanner co. and told them what I was going to do. Got an e-mail the next day that my card had been credited for $17

Check with your Credit Card Co. on internet purchases.

I have ordered a many items from the Internet. Including the company that you had problems with. Most experiences have been good. When there have been a problems. It was taken care of most of the time by email, some by phone.

It was an easy move to Internet purchasing since I did a lot of catalog ordering before the Internet. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Finished all my Christmas shopping over the Internet day after Thanksgiving. Everything has arrived. Forgot to order wrapping. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I now have to wrap all of them. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have purchased a few items with no trouble. Shipping was very fast even having to come across the border.

I use a dedicated credit card with very low limit for this type of purchase.

I've got the police involved for two different purchases I made online. That got stuff fixed real fast... one guy even went to jail. If you get ripped off, there is recourse. Those people just bet on you not being determined enough to see though all the red tape that it takes to get somthing done.

Bill,
I'm in the process of TRYING to get an order returned right now. I have a pair of real nice welding gloves. But they are getting well worn. I found a place in Georgia with on-line ordering that shows the exact item on their website. Placed my order for 2 new pair. I was told the order would probably go out in 3-5 business days. After waiting a month, I called and was told they are on backorder. I understand that does happen to all suppliers at some point. Then I get an e-mail that my order was being shipped the next day. When it did arrive, they were NOT what I ordered. After several e-mails they admitted they sent a replacement that was (in their opinion) of equal or better quality. In my opinion, they were not. So, now I am waiting for the correct address and a RMA/RGA to send them back.

But usually I have no problems buying on-line.

I have had good luck buying over the internet. Only had one bad incident in all the years of doing internet deals.

We were building our house and the wife wanted this particular hot water dispenser for the sink. When it was ordered they had it in stock. Couple weeks later we email them and its been back ordered but it should be available in a couple weeks. This went on for a couple months. I put my foot down and said enough is enough after finding out they charged our CC card. Told the wife cancel the @#$%^&!* order!!

Well....shortly after that we get a notice saying they filed for bankruptcy but the order will still be sent. Ha....yea right!

Called the CC company and sent the obligatory letter and got the charge taken off. Now for a real laugh....the company called and said they were restructuring and they could ship the item. I thought again...yea right....no thanks. A week later the company was gone.
