My next truck will have as few options as possible, that Im sure of. I dont need powered nut warmers or power seats and DVD player for that matter. My current ford has all that crap. Cost me $55k. Never again. I dont care one bit about ford, gm or toyota's profit margin, of course they want to sell a rig with every conceivable option. They bring those high-buck rigs in, then they put a $10k off sticker on that same truck after it sits for a few months on the lot to try and sell it:rolleyes: How smart and "knowing your market" is that??

I dont necessarily agree that 99% of people wouldnt buy it. A lot of guys on here are the same as me. I want a bare bones work truck, not a mall cruiser. They sell them in other markets, why not here??? The auto companies like to say that people wouldnt buy it, but thats easy for them to say, since they dont offer it in the first place. Its in their best interest to pretend there is no market! Id be all over an Aussie Land Cruiser with a Ute Tray on back, that would be about the only truck that Id be interested in new, although the stripped special order stripped Canyon that is being built for government would at least get me to look at it assuming it gets offered to the public.

This. I got rid of my 04 with manual seats and windows and a plastic floor to buy a fancy truck that I don't use most of the options like sun roof, DVD, NAV, etc... and spent more money for no good reason. Never again.

Simple is good.

My last truck was pretty basic. I went all out on my new truck. I've raned a sunroof for a long time. I'm not getting near as good of fuel milage as some ppl on net are claiming but I did average 26 mpg for a good strech today. It will get its first real test in 2 weeks when I pull my boat 240 miles to the family reunion. But so far its no complaints an all smiles so far.

Keep in mind it will take a while to "wear in" the diesel engine to get your best mileage. Compression tests done on the VW TDI diesel show it takes between 60K-70K miles to reach max compression values. I have 54K miles on my VW TDI Passat and my mileage is still improving.

I am with you but the problem is they won't move off the price of the stripped truck like they will the loaded up one. People think they're getting a better deal because they knocked off $8000 on a $60k truck as opposed to only getting $1,500 off on a stripped down one. Dealers use this to their advantage too. You might see three or four stripped models on the lot but you'll see two or three rows of highly dolled up trucks.

I noticed my Cummins is slowly (very slowly) getting better. I really hope the trend continues!
I personally found it harder to find a mid range truck when i bought. I didn't want a fully loaded one (Don't need Navigation or leather) but did want the normal power stuff and could have taken a sunroof if I could have found one. It seemed most of our dealers had super loaded trucks or true work trucks with nothing on them. Ended up driving about 2 hrs away to get what I wanted but was worth it to me to get 90% of the stuff I wanted and not pay for the stuff I didn't need.

In my experience the cummins will get a little better mileage at 10,000 miles and a bigger increase in mileage at 40,000 miles.
