Well thanks for all the help everyone. I just ordered the 790/419 FEL with hood guard 61" HD bucket/LX5 slip clutch-laminated wheel/Ind. tires. $14,900

What it really came down to was a nice basic machine with a good rep, local dealer, good price and financing. Suprisingly my wife really wanted this one because of it's slightly retro look, makes it look like a smaller version of big farm tractors. She thought the more sophisticated, rounded, plastic hood and refined looks of some other brands or models were "like a big lawn tractor"

Since we went with her choice /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I never have to hear "I told you so" if it breaks. Now THAT is insurance you can't buy at any price /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now I have to wait until July 27th for it to come in unless it can be located at another dealer. I hate waiting but at least the new brush hog will get a real wotkout the way my place is growing /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I tell you everyone was very helpful and I almost feel bad not having gone with one of the other brands people were promoting. Guys on this forum all seem to really like their particular brand but still tend to give other brands an honest reveiw without bashing. Much more objective than what you get on the truck forums for instance.

F350Lawman,

Congrats on your new machine. That's a nice tractor and I'm sure you'll have a blast playing/working on it. We all do tend to like our particular brands of tractors but we try to be objective since most of us are big fans of all tractors. Now if you were to bring up Gear vs. Hydro debates or something like that then the objectivity might go right out the window. Hope the wait doesn't kill ya'. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

F350lawnman:

Major congrats...WoooFreakingWhooo and another green machine on It's way to a new home. I've been following your post as I'm looking at alot of the same tractors you were and wifey tested the 790/419 two weeks ago and loved it. Things are looking green for me too...although I'm still in tractor love with the MF 1433 /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yeah funny, I would never had thunk it.... my wife really liked the hood stack exhaust, squared shape and older styling as well. I can see her point it is the more "traditional look".

Me I love the "perfume" of diesel and it does sort of match my green diesel dually pickup but looks were not a big concern. Bottom line is I felt I couldn't make much of a mistake with any of the tractors I was considering and especially with this basic Deere.

I agree with your wife...the machine looks more "purposeful" and "tractorlike". I like the 4200 and up machines. I like the TC 30 New Holland, but the Boomers do look sorta like upgraded lawn tractors (Just my opinion...no flames, please). No comments on the Kubotas...great machines.

Heck, all of them are great machines...and I don't buy based upon the looks (mostly by the $'s involved). But, I do like the older styling. Of course, I'm not real big on the "organic" look of the new Ford pick ups either.

Gads!!! Must be getting old!

As you can see (attached pic), my 670 has identical sheet metal to your 790.

Yep, looks pretty much the same.

I also agree on the Fords, althought I do have the new body style I really liked the square style up to 99. It has grown on me and the new trucks have other inprovements that initially made up for my questions on style.

I see you are in PA, I ended up buying from Siepiela in Honesdale PA.

Hey, congrats F350! You're gonna love the 790 but why such a long wait? That surprises me as my dealer normally has a couple sitting on the lot. When it comes in, we'll have to compare loaders. I've got the 70 loader and I'm curious the differences with the 419.

Hope it comes in sooner for you /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

He had one being assembled and going out the door, guess I was a day late!

My local guy has 4or 5 but can't/won't come down in price.

I am going to call the dealer I bought from, he said he would call around try to get one.

If not they are due in on June 27th according to his paperwork.

In his defense they seemed very busy, gave upfront bottom line pricing and had very little sitting in the lot as compared to other dealers.

Heck it rains here every day anyway I need a submarine not a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Guess the wait won't kill me.

Congrats on your 790! You will love it. I have had mine for almost 2 years and have almost 400 hours on it now. Great, dependable machine. Only problem I had was with the battery and the battery connections. Dealer replaced the battery and I replaced the post connectors myself. Had to run a new ground wire, as the old one quit making contact on the sheet metal in the battery compartment. I ran it up and attached it to the engine block. What type of tires are you getting with your?

I have read several posts on the battery issue so Iwill pay close attention to that area.

I got the industrial tires so that I can use it on the lawn and around the backyard without too much damage.(hopefully)

Also I have run in-shed and barn that the tractor would barely fit under with Ag tires, I believe the ind. tires are a couple of inches lower in profile so I should be good to go.

Can't wait.

You wont regret going with the R4 industrial tires. I use mine in our landscaping company almost daily and it is the way to go on turf. I bought a canopy for mine, also and that helps alot in the "warm" southern summers. It also helps keep some of the dust from going down the back of your neck when you are bush hogging1

I did mention to my wife that the yellow Deere nylon canopy would be a nice Father's Day present /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

According to the Dealers paperwork June 27th.

I was kinda leaning on him to see if someone local had one but he suggested waiting for one that they recieve and setup themselves. Said in the past he's gotten ones from other dealers stock that had scrathes etc. from someone monkeying with them and then customers were not happy.

Don't know if that's they real reason, but the dealer seems real good so I think I'll wait. I am going to call tomorrow and see if the date has changed.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to take care of you, but they don't make as much on a tractor that they transfer in. Personally I would wait for the 790 to be delivered in on the 27th, that way you can be pretty much sure nobody has been monkeying with it.

PBX,
I ordered my fiberglass top through my deere dealer as a aftermarket product. Give me a couple of days to find my paperwork on it, but I believe it was around $350.00. It came from a company up in eastern tennessee. Made very well, bolted directly to my ROPS, and I have used it summer & winter no problem. I also pull my 790 on my trailer a lot, going down the interstate at speeds up to 75 MPH. No problems with it flexing or moving. I will private mail you with the info.
