Actually, I saw a brand new New Holland in "Virginia Dept of Transporation"-orange last week near Bealeton,VA. Almost all the VDOT vehicles are this color.

In NJ, DOT paints EVERYTHING slime green, you know the kind that glows in the dark, Ford, JD, Case, CAT you name it any color, as long as it is SLIME GREEN, guess they say you can see it better... NOT!
I think NY DOT paints everything Orange. So it could be one of those used machines with a million hours on them, or a new unit ready to go out, hard to say.
Hey just thought of a new Post, what does your state paint it's highway equipment???
I saw an orange New Holland backhoe beside the RR tracks a couple times here near Pittsburgh...wondered about it each time...guess I have an idea why now!
Some time ago we heard about a CUT that was stolen, moved a few miles and painted to disguise it. I think it was a Deere or NH and got painted Kubota orange so people would not check it out thinking it was a Kubota. They recovered it and I don't know what happened to it, but the guy didn't seem too happy that his new tractor had a fresh coat of off brand paint.

Some Railroad companies paints all their equipment orange.

It is not uncommon for Tractor companies to paint tractors a different color. If a company or locality is buying a fleet of tractors they can have them painted whatever color they want.
Where did you hear about Kubota suing Kioti (about orange paint or other things?). Is this from a reliable source or "I heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy...". I'm sure there could be some truth to it, but I hadn't heard anything about it.
Take it easy

P.S. - the Kentucky DOT used to paint everything pale yellow, but lately they have been leaving heaving equipment its O.E.M. colors and their trucks/dump trucks are all white.

There are rental fleets out there that either paint or order thier equipment painted the same color. For example out here in the Pacfic northwest there is a large chain of rental stores called Sunbelt Rentals and every peice of equipment sitting in thier yards is painted bright green. Including thier large fleet of various sizes of Kubota's. Yes thats right all of there Kubota's are bright green. Not a John Deere green but close.
One of the landscape firms here paints everything three tone green. Hard to figure out what you're seeing with everything painted three tone green stripes.
My old Farmall has some yellow paint under the red. It was probably used by a shcool or state government. Hanging out on the antique pages and looking at books, this practice of "fleet" painting goes back a lot of years.

I went back to take a picture of it, but it was gone: A NH TN(?) unit painted the color of the Asplundh orange - it belonged to the tree company. It had a big cage on top of it and also had "Woods" painted on the side of the hood.
Another mysterious sighting...../w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
