Opinions on MX5100

I am looking to purchase a MX5100 (4WD) with FEL. Looking for any opinions, experience, or problems with this tractor.

My dad just purchased one about a month and a half ago.He has 10 hours on it so far. His came with loaded R1's, FEL, and a Kubota backhoe attachment. He is using it for land maintenance on about 25 acres of wooded/pasture land. So far he has been very pleased with the tractor. His only complaints are noise level when driving on the road in high gear. He gets some gear whine and alot of noise from the fiberglass canopy over the operator's station.

I was very pleased with the overall functionality of it the couple of times I have used it to dig up some trees and brush.

the mx has spur final gears that whine a lot more than the planetary gears of higher end (M series) tractor. also, I noticed a lot of vibration on the rear fenders, etc on the road. basically a dependable, bare bones tractor. bb

I'm using my M series as the primary tractor on a veg/fruit farm. My dad is using the MX for general land maintenance and some light excavation. It works great for his needs, good balance of performance and price. Its capable but no real frills and not the best choice for ag work.

We did a demo with a MX5100 and IMHO it is exactly for what ZDB describes - smaller acreage and general maintenance type of work, not heavy ag or FEL work (kinda light in the backend and I could not get used to that offset rear axle but that is just a personal thing - I am sure it is fine) Loved the quieter 4 cyl engine with the turbo - very smooth. But in the end we purchased a M7040 due to the loader work requirement.
