OPINIONS ON ASHCROFT?

Been watching the confirmation hearing on Ashcroft. It seems that Ted Kennedy is his worst opponent, as if he had room to talk!! I don't think they quite understand honesty and integrity after 8 years of Clinton. I think he would do a good job as AG. it's wonderful to see some one that can set up straight and answer a question without faltering and hehawing around. Whatcha think?

He is seen as an appeasement to the right wing of the GOP. True, but I haven't seen anything to suggest he would not be able to handle the AG post. Shouldn't surprise anyone that his greatest opposition would come from the far left of the Dems. During the Clinton impeachment trial, wasn't Teddy the one who accused the Republicans of playing partisan politics/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Of course, the fact that I thought her article was great will alert you to the fact that I'm a rabid small "c" conservative.
I tend to agree that anyone that Teddy is against must be on the side of the angels!

Jim,I live in Missouri,and have for 47 years.I can tell you Mr. Ashcroft is a good,decent,honorable man.I think Mr. Bush is making a wise decision in appointing John Ascroft to a Cabinet position.Looks to me like Bush is trying to restore some dignity to the White House.Yes,T. Kennedy needs to quit being a politician for a moment and realize the needs of the American Farmer and the perils which they face.By the way,did I mention I was a Democrat?

Coming from another Missourian, what MReeter said about John Ashcroft is true. He lives by his principles. During the Senate race here he suspended his campaign for a while after Gov. Carnahan died which hurt him in the poles but was the decent thing to do. He also didn't contest the appointment of Jean Carnahan as Senator when he may have had grounds to do that. Cynics say his AG appointment is payback for these actions from the Republican party but that is just speculation. What matters is if he can uphold the laws even if he doesn't agree with them. If he acts like he did when he held many different state offices here, he should do fine. I have more confidence that when he swears an oath on the Bible that it means something, more so than some others in recent memory.

I think the way that the Jesse Jackson story was reported readily shows the liberal bias of the media. You can imagine what a field day the press would have had if the same type of scandal had involved John Ashcroft. The fact that the liberal democrats don't like him is about as good an endorsement for Ashcroft as you are going to get. MJB

I also thought it was swell of Big Bill to pardon all of his cronies before he left office.I'm not for sure where all of them were "locked up",but I'm positive they were staying in a resort compared to most prisons.Pools,tennis courts,golf courses,etc.

Guys It's a shame when a man who stands for honesty, integrity and morals is demonized by the far left. John Ashcroft is a man of priciple;it is these same principles that will allow him to up hold the laws that he doesn't agree with. When Joe Liberman was campaigning for the democrats he talked about God in his life. He was championed by the left for his morals. When a conservative does the same he is reported to be mean spirited and vindictive.We as a nation have gotten used to the liberals telling us what bad people we are for believing in God, Country and Morality. Bob Livingston lost the job as speaker of the house because of his extra marital affair. Jesse Jackson and Bill Clinton are defended by the left who say that great men like these two shouldn't be held accountable for the lust that they have for women. I hope that Bush brings this country back on the road to common sense and restores honor to the Whitehouse.
