Some "drivers" think the mirrors are only for backing up and they just distract them from their phone.

Drivers were ignoring mirrors long before cellphones existed.

I used to run tow trucks (wreckers) I worked a few of wrecks caused by unaware drivers one guy hit a bridge and it killed him. Now I run dump trailers​ and dump trucks it's kinda obvious that the body is up but like somebody said if on the phone all other things don't matter. But for me I feel safer with it down and PTO off . All of our trucks have a alarm and won't shift if the body is not all the way down and PTO off we mostly use automatic transmissions​ in the trucks.

Happen in SF last month... the overpass is wiped out... untold millions in damages.

Also in Montreal, tore the box clean off.
Driver was hauling snow to the dump site.
They generally get paid by the load so want to be in front of the line and disregard a lot of safety issues.
Every year some pedestrians get killed or injured due to the multiple driver blind spots, that and lots of Montreal 'jay walking'.

Having just got my CDL, I hope I don't end up the subject of one of those videos... green mistakes come in all sizes, some you can't hide!

All ya gotta do is look in your mirror, you can see if the box is down. It is not rocket science.

I was just being humble... I think it's highly unlikely I would make such a major mistake. But I am human...

Back in the day when I hauled gravel, the transmission wouldn't shift very good when the PTO was engaged. It would still shift, but not near as smooth as when the PTO was disengaged.
