Hi folks,
I was mowing earlier and noticed a little noise from the hydraulic pump up front. I didn't think much of it but next thing I know I lost power steering and all hydraulics. I found my problem, a line had cracked that runs from the front of the pump back to the top of the steering column and on to the rear of the tractor. My question is do you think the pump could be damaged from running it probably 20 minutes after I lost hydraulics? Also once I replace the line is there anything I need to do to bleed the system? Thanks for any help!

I believe I would replenish the hyd fluid and install a hyd gage and check some pressures.

Air will be purged when you operate the cyl's several times.

Ok thanks. I found the replacement line online for 138 bucks ouch! So once I install it how would I go about checking the pressures?

Make one of these and plug into one of your QD's or install a hyd opresssure in the IN port of the FEL valve.

Thanks JJ, unfortunately I have neither QDs or FEL. Hopefully running it low didn't damage anything else like the pump. I don't know if the pump is rebuildable but hopefully i wont need to do that. I guess I'll just put the new line on top it off and see if its as strong as before.

Just an update, I had the cracked line brazed and topped off the hydraulic fluid and she works good as new. Repairing the line vs replacing saved 130$!
