Oops - Wrong Grade - advice?

Just changed the Oil Cooled Deutz's oil with Mobil Synth. Friggin grabbed the wrong cases (one is for my CX-7) and ended up putting 10-30 in instead of 10-40.

I don't think it should really matter but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

how many quarts did you pour?

Since this is winter time and we are not going to hit 100* anytime soon, you should be ok. The only thing you might notice is a little more valve noise. You are not going to do any damage.

Just make shure U change over to summer weight when it summer arrives!

As long as it's rated for the application you should be just fine.

If its only been in for a few hours drain it out and put in the right weight. Pour it back in the jugs and use it for another application.

Either way you will not do any damage. I know a guy who bought a tractor new a few years back and was doing the first 100 hour service. He bought a 5 gallon jug of 15W40 diesel oil and a 5 gallon jug of AW32 hydraulic oil. Well he got around to changing the oil and put AW32 hydraulic oil in it by mistake. He decided to wait a few weeks to do the hydraulic oil and when he did he realized what he had done. He had ran it over 15 hours. He changed it out and put in the proper oil. Over 5 years later and 700 plus hours and its still going strong.

He got lucky.

drain it out and put in the right weight

The only way to know what's right and wrong, is to consult the machine/engine manual. The Deutz F4L manual I have here says 10-30 is suitable for use when the ambient temp is between -4F and +86F.

When it comes to oil, (service classification, viscosity, etc.), disregard everything you're told and consult the manual(s) the machine came with.

15*40 is what we run here.

My truck uses 5*30

I really have no idea why but I put the same stuff in, I figure someone smarter than me made this decision for a reason.

I understand that the 5w oil came about as a quicker way to lube the tighter built engines. The added plus is supposed to be better fuel mileage. Our dealer insisted this was required to maintain a good warranty on the car?I have read from good publications of engine problems on Gm cars from the 10w-40 auto oils, concerning piston ring problems. This was sometime ago, and has probably been cured by now? I personally believe in Synthetic Lubes now...5-20w ...Jy.
