One mans trash is anothers treasure

Went to the dump today to unload a carport I am tearing down the build a new shop/garage (post on that to come) and I SCORED! I look next to me in the metal dumpster and there is a nice looking Husquavarna 345 laying on top of the pile. So I grab it and throw it in the truck thinking, what is the worst that can happen? If the motor is blown I have always wanted to rebuild a chainsaw. Well I get home, throw some gas in it and BAM! fires right up!! No $h!t!!!! It has a gas leak, but by my VERY quick inspection I believe there is a hose missing from the gas tank. I can look down on the side and there is a nipple without a hose coming off it. So yeah, I have always said, my favorite kind of chainsaw is a free chainsaw! Have a good evening gentlemen!!View attachment 653247

Good find! We used to do this kind of thing all the time. We'd go out looking on big item trash pickup days to see what was available.

Now cleaning out the garage with carriage house next. Got the trash bin almost full from the garage and some metal in a box for recycle.

Sorry, no Husquavarna, but I put an old 12" chain in the metal box. It doesn't work on the new Stihl MSA-120.

Best score that I remember finding at the Dumps was when I was in my teens, and I found a box full of Playboy magazines!!! The trick was getting it into the car without my parents seeing it!!!

A number of years ago when my father passed away I had to empty out his house. My plan was to go through it, get the stuff we wanted to keep, and then just see of the kids on the street wanted to run a garage sale. Everything they sold they could keep the cash. My sister didn't want to so we ended up taking truckloads to the free section of the dump. The first week we were very selective but after that everything that the dump would allow us to put in the free section. A lot of really nice stuff ended up down there. I'm sure we could of sold lots of it but just didn't have the time. I still have things that the dump wouldn't take, like a full set of scuba gear with a nice aluminum tank that hasn't been tested since 93.

How I got my Troy Bilt horse some years back. In a dumpster. Engine (Tecumseh) burned more oil than gas. Tossed on a 99 buck Pred and been happy ever since. Had to make a second trip. Too heavy for just me to get out.
