onan engine points

Does anybody know what years the 318 with Onan engines came with points? I don't know much about these engines and would really like some input on them if anybody knows?

Do you have a 318 with an Onan engine?

No I don't but a friend does and he cannot get it started and I am just trying to find out if his engine had points. He has replaced a lot of stuff on the engine and he says he has checked all the connections. I haven't been there to help been to busy so I have been posting for him. If it is a B43g engine, then it has points. They are on top of engine at the front, under a small rectangular aluminum box. I would make sure he is getting spark and fuel before replacing parts hoping it will start. Could be a safety switch.
