Do any dealers do on site service (coming to your farm) for smaller tractors? My Kubota L6060HSTC threw a code 20 today and won't start. Every time I call the dealer, they want to haul it into the shop, without even sending someone out. I told them it has the box blade and loader on it at the moment, and the service guy was basically like that is the transportation person's issue.

Is it normal for dealers to refuse to come look at tractors at your farm? Are they just wanting to make revenue in shipping the tractor? Are they really unable to work in the field?

I just don't get it because I see all these channels online where these big farms have service people coming out all the time to work on their larger equipment. Does this not apply to smaller equipment?

I'd really like to know because if this is a dealer issue, I'm about ready to trade the tractor off to find another dealer if other dealers would come on site. When I purchased, I recall asking a JD dealer in the area if they did on site service and they told me no. So maybe it is just not normal for smaller machines?

They'll do it if enough people pay for it, obviously it's probably cheaper for them to pay a driver $10/hr with a $50k flat bed truck to go get your tractor while their $25/hr wrench monkey and $100k tool truck turns wrenches for three hours instead of drive to look at a small tractor. Gotta remember the big equipment is going to cost thousands of dollars to move so it's more economical the other way for some of the big pieces.

Have you tried resetting the fault?

Is your tractor still on warranty? If not, I would think there are local independent tractor repair guys who will come to your place to fix a tractor. I have an independent guy who comes to my place to maintain my tractors. He can handle most stuff right here with his service truck. For something major, he has to haul it to his shop, but for a small issue, he doesn't. The dealer I bought my tractor from would come with a service truck for small issues, luckily, I never needed anything done on warranty.

It gets expensive. Good chance the guy won't have the part he needs and have to come back. Good chance, he comes back with the wrong part or it didn't fix the problem. Some customers don't think they should have to pay for that.

I have seen this on the mobile techs from big name dealerships that service stuff operating on this farm. If there is a problem, they are in and out of here a bunch of times for one issue.

Our Kubota dealer makes on site service calls on tractors and equipment they sell up to certain point, but if unit needs shop attention they explain why.

Like Thomas said - it depends upon what must be done. Some can be done in the field - some must be done in their shop. The local Kubota dealer provides field service around here.

My JD Dealership does. They have several mobile servicing utes and treat all sizes of JD tractors equally. Mind you, if it's planting/harvesting season your SCUT/CUT may get a lower 'priority'... but they will get to you.

I believe that the other colour tractor dealerships also run servicing utes, here in Tassie. They'd have to IOT at least keep up with the competition.

My LS dealer will come to my place (60 minute) drive, I had a regen issue with the first regen and he was out the next day. It was 8:00 PM when he got here so I was very pleased with his service.

It was a factor when I bought my tractor, The Kubota dealer was closer but wanted $300 to pickup and deliver, and the JD dealer wanted $150. This is for work under warranty.

I would have needed a $4-5k trailer to avoid those charges and that was not in the cards. And if the tractor would not start, how would I get a 6000 lb machine loaded?

It's the dealer. The tractor I bought was because of the dealer. They sell and service several brands and service larger tractors for farms. I know the dealer because of the farms in the area and I know they will send someone out to the middle of a field to work on a tractor or attachment. I do my own routine service but when I have a problem I needed to know that I can pick up the phone and they'll come. This winter I had an issue with my blower in the middle of a storm and they came out and fixed it and they were there within an hour of me calling. So far the work has all been under warranty but when the warranty is gone I will gladly pay them to come out to do the work, honestly it's not going to be much different than paying the cost to have them come pick it up and bring it back.
