Where do I begin.....
Better take an apple for the teacher!

My granddaughter is in pre-school. Her teacher decided to have "farm week" and teach the kids who aren't from the country a little of what goes on out on the farm. Yesterday they had an area farmer bring in 2 calves, 2 pigs, and a couple goats. Today is "tractor day". I'm taking a couple of mine, my son is hauling his new one in, and a local Deere dealer is going to bring a combine they've just traded for. Kids from age 3 to 5.

This aughtta be big fun! (for the kids too:) )

Nice. Both of my kids were playing on both of my red tractors today after work. Lucky I have two... tractors (and kids!) that is :D

I'd like to see something like this where I live. We are one of the very last agricultural towns inside of a major highway outside of boston, it'd be nice..

So, farm, how did it go? Well, i'm sure...

Theres a town close to me that has a tractor parade to school once a year. All the kids drive through town to school on tractors. If the kids dont have a tractor, they get one from a neighbor or relative, even if its just a riding mower.
I wanted video it last year so bad but didnt make it to the parade.

Just curious which town - there are still a few. I live in West Newbury, just inside 495 (40 mi North of Boston) we are still pretty agricultural - especially known for Xmas tree farms. But definitely growing more subdivisions every year. Even the city of Haverhill has some sections that are mostly farm.

We're 23-25 miles south west of boston... In the metro-west area, there's not a lot left. However a couple of towns further west, it gets a bit more rural again, only in places tho...

We had a bit of a medical emergency here yesterday, (Wife took an ambulance ride and spent 14 hours in emergency room after allergic reaction to medicine) so I haven't had the opportunity to download pictures from the "tractor day" just yet. It was a raging success! All the kids were excited about getting to sit in the operators seats. Every one had their picture taken one at a time, for the church newsletter. I thought the big green combine and new tractor would get all the attention, but my 2 oldies got their share too. Some of the smaller kids actually liked the smaller tractors better. They seemed less intimidated.

There was one boy that seemed to know more than expected. His "Paw Paw" has a farm. He knew all about the combine and what it did. He even showed me a few of the controls and how they operated. Quite a suprise coming from a 4 year old.

Then there was my grand daughter....... She was oh so wound up. Her dad and grampa were, in her eyes, the stars of the show. She was absolutely beaming!

In the end, we ALL had fun. I think the adults had MORE fun than the kids when it was all said and done. There is nothing that will revitalize us old folks quite like a big group of little ones.

We're starting to make plans for a simular event for next year, possibly including a trip to a working farm.
