OMG What a Pile!

You know Doofy - lead out of batteries and broken wheel weights is what I molded all my pistol bullets out of when in AK. But, I never had to deal with 3000#. To get wheel weights - leave a 5 gallon plastic bucket and $10 dollar bill with the Chevron service station manager. About three months later - drop by - the bucket is full. Melts down to about 35 to 40 pounds of lead.

I also molded fishing weights out of the same lead.

For many years here we would save AL cans and take them in to the recycler. Paid for the round trip and burgers. I quit drinking soda and the recycle, return per pound, went to pot - so that activity ended abruptly.

The return on lead acid automotive batteries at the scrap yard is very respectable here. I have seen returns as high as $8.00 - $10.00 each.
Pound for pound far better than scrap steel or aluminum.

The last time I took a large trailer load of scrap to the dump, I got maybe thirty bucks which I thought was pretty good. When I got home, my lady friend asked me how much money I got, thinking I was RICH! When I told her, she blurted out "IS THAT ALL".

I felt kind of small!

I got nearly $500 between 2 truck loads early this year. I’ve got a lot more that needs to go but scrap is down.
