Loaded up my old pile of lead-acid batteries today for a trip to the battery recycler. Actually, there is a tote at my local landfill and when it is full gets hauled in for recycling.

55 years of battery collecting amounted to about 70 batteries and weighed around 3000 lbs or more. My truck is sure squatting. This does not include all the batteries that have been turned in to the auto parts store as 'cores'.

No good reason Not to recycle. Give a Hoot and don't Pollute!

Chi-Ching! I love taking batteries in. It's about the only thing I ever get money for to make it seem worthwhile.

Hahahaha. No Chi-Ching. Any money raised from any recycling goes back in to dump maintenance. No revenue sharing money from the State any more because they say our community is to small to receive the funds now. All is Good.

The last time I took a large trailer load of scrap to the dump, I got maybe thirty bucks which I thought was pretty good. When I got home, my lady friend asked me how much money I got, thinking I was RICH! When I told her, she blurted out "IS THAT ALL".

I felt kind of small!

Nah, it takes a big man to do what's right and not expect to become rich or expect anything. Now you have less crap in the way. My Wife wishes I would haul more stuff to the dump.

So when did SIZE matter?

Back when I used to travel around the state with my daughter's high school basketball team, it would amaze me how very small communities would have beautiful new schools. "Oil Money."

Our illustrious legislators have piddled away most of that oil money on frivolous boondoggles that only benefit themselves and a few cronies. In the "Glory Days" of oil money they would build you anything...just never allocate money to maintain it over the long haul. 30 years in school maintenance really opened my eyes.

Some of them, while looking very beautiful, probably were very costly to heat. Homer had an Olympic sized pool with big glass windows to let the light in.

Conn requires a $5 deposit on batteries, I get much more at the scrap yard for lead
