Oldies - What tractor?

I'm not 100% either, but I think you're right Bob.

They had a couple air intake designs [I mention that because that was my first sign against the "ussuall suspects"] so it's a bit more confusing; especially when vitage machines often "pick-up" mismatched parts.

Anyway, the radiator, the intake, the fenders, the driver's area: it just seems to screem Oliver Hart-Parr [likely with the former in larger letters over the latter in smaller letters on the radiator] model 18-28 [the fore-runner to the Oliver 90].

An intersting side note: they put basically the same engine in a single front wheel [1930 only] "row crop" machine and designated it the 18-27. The 3 fwd gears of HI, MED, & LOW = slow, slower, & slowest. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm thinking the room for the horses was a more of an extra advantage than the primary reason [but I've been wrong plenty of times before /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif]

I'd always been told it was to reduce the chance of fires, especially with steam power. I've only ran the ol' Case with steam once [wasn't my engine, but sure wish I could afford one], but my [50ft if memory is correct] belt seemed adequate. I like it with gas tractors too though for keeping the tractor and operator distanced from the dust, also my shorter belt just "seems too close" and I'm convinced the long belt is either visually easier to line up [or, as would make sense, triangulating] is just more forgiving. You throw a belt and slug a machine once, and you'll know why throwing the belt is a bad thing. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The long belt is easier to align and requires less tension. The threshing I have seen have always had the hoses pull into the feeder with the tractor behind them. On larger macines they could unload from both sides of the feeder.

I don't know the tractor but that machine is called a reaper and the device ahead of it with the 2 little wheels is call a Forecart.

Maybe case. I believe the Hart Parr tractors had the one piece round engine sump on the bottom with access plates in the sides for repair/rebuilding.

I have no info to offer about the equipment...I just appreciate your post and the great photos. They are beautiful and "calming" pictures and I enjoy listening to the lessons about older equipment. I love new tractors but they are nowhere as endearing as the old iron.
Thanks for the great photos and to all for the history..

I am trying to picture in my mind the effect of the trolley wheels between the front hitch poles. Do you think they are mainly to help the steering process or to hold up the long hitch poles? These are shown better in the second post.
