Does anyone have experience running an older model B7100 with a category one bush hog? Specifically, is the bush hog too much for this tractor? I want to be able to clear my lot, but not if it means ruining my B7100. The bush hog I bought is the smallest one I could find (40 inch wide). The bush hog is rated for 40/50 hp, but the tractor only has 17 hp. I intend to be as careful as possible using the bush hog, but this is my first tractor, and I have almost no experience...

Thanks in advance,
Don

It may be that there is a mistake in the HP rating of that 40" 3-point bush hog. Your B7100 should handle that without problem. Your tractor could handle a 48" mower if taken slowly, IMO.

The rating of 40 to 50 hp on the 40" bush hog is the MAX hp the gearbox on the implement can handle, if I am not mistaken. It is not the minimum HP to operate the implement.
The best to you.

I had a B6200, similar to your B7100. Mine had 15 Hp and was 4wd with HST. Is yours HST? Anyway, I ran a 5 foot brush ho
hog for 1 day because thats what I had access to. It was a bit heavy on gne backend but the engine ran it but I would not revommend a 5 footer. But I think a 40 incher would be ideal for you. I say yes. And you can put some counter weight on the front but I dont think you will really need it.

My girlfriend has a B7100 and it runs my 4 foot Ford brand bushog great. It is an older model bushog and is pretty heavy. I use it with a chain in place of a top link. Makes it a lot safer and more stable on hills and dips in the fields.

Thanks to everyone that replied to this. I will go ahead and use my bush hog with my B7100 HST-E (two wheel drive) tractor.

Just as an add on: make sure the whistle is working and rads are clean on the outside.
