Tractor
john deere 1070, john deere 825i gator
i bought a 4wd '95 1070 tractor a couple of months ago. really good shape, low hours, and the price was right. but, it didn't have a loader. the perceived price/value correlation was too good to pass up, so i started looking around for a loader for my new (too me) beauty. there was a jd 80 loader i found on ebay, but the the seller was a total sleaze so i bailed. i talked with koyker and westendorf, both of which seemed to be ok but didn't have that big of a presence here i colorado. during the first week of december, my wife showed me a decent loader at a decent price from a source i had not considered: john deere.

come to find out john deere was advertising the 300cx loader as fitting the 1070. hmm, i said, and called the john deere dealer in parker. "you sure about this?" the salesman said, and poked around in the jd website for a bit, and then said "well how about that". i ordered one, it came in, and it is now being installed. i'll post pictures when i get the tractor back. this ought to be interesting :)

So, how did your wife find out about the obscure JD FEL?

Tractor junkie?

Explanation has to be another story…...

Often it is a matter of asking the right question, to the right person. Good for you.

John Deere often makes new model loaders "back compatible" to older model tractors. Just a matter of designing different mount brackets. They know their tractors last a LONG time.

a 300cx loader isn't obscure, john deere made thousands of them. as far as how she found out about the fact that the loader is backwards compatible, the force is strong with her :)

Agreed the 300cx is far from obscure. I would say its common the whole 3000 series cuts use them.

That's great! So, how much did JD charge you for the complete set up?

Looks very good. I am wondering how different the 1070 is from the 990/4005? Did many modifications have to be made or was it a pretty direct install?

bet it was pretty close, the 990 is very similar to the 1070. I dont JD would modify it very much and still stand behind it,my bet is it was a very close fit, sure looks great

No modifications would be needed. John Deere sells the correct mounting hardware to mount the 300 loaders on the 1070s.

Looks great and the color even matches. That 1070 looks like a new tractor, must be well maintained.

Now you just need to mount the weight bar to the box blade. It would allow you to hang the weights of the back so it can use the loader to it's full capacity and not lift the rear off the ground.

that's the bad part. the loader with bucket, the loader mounts, what john deere called the 'oil kit', and filling the rear tires with rimguard was $6100.00 the oil kit adds additional hard oil lines on the loader to match up with the 1070's hydraulic patch panel located by the drivers left foot. you can see the patch panel in the bottom picture right above the the front tire. the price is still about 5 grand less than a new 40 hp tractor with loader and box blade.

thanks, the 1070 is in really good shape. from what very little i've used the loader so far, it is very easy to control and not jerky at all. that may change once i get some weight in the bucket. the only bad thing i've found is that i slide around on the seat a little and if i slide to the right i uncurl the bucket. i might have to bend the joystick a little to move it away from the seat a little more.

i have a cousin in fort collins, it's a very nice place in general.

i'm not really sure what the major differences are. in general the 1070 tire sizes seem bigger. the 1070 has a 3 speed gearbox with 3 ranges for 9 forward gears and 2 reverse. the 1070 has draft control which i find very useful. the only mod that was made as i understand it is the additional oil lines on the left frame of the loader to match the way the hydraulics were plumbed on the 1070. everything else was just bolted up. i'll get some pictures of this in a couple weeks.
