Yep, I think Thomas and JJT got it right. I remember seeing an old grader with the manual wheels for blade control. Wish I had picture of my mother (93 yrs now) she helped her Poppa build a road with mule and drag pan. Happy New Year to all ! Norris

Thanks, John, Thomas, and Gotrocks. I think you are correct. This picture had to be taken in the late 1920's and that piece of equipment looks a lot like it has seen better days. My guess had been that it was made sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's. You can barely see a large gear of some type just below the handwheels, and there are probably missing parts that we can't see. Thanks to all of you for your help. From now on, when someone asks, I'm going to say it's a road grader./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

I agree on the Road Grader. Farmer my Dad worked for had one. Pulled it behind a tractor. Seems like around the early 1950s.
