I have a gallon of rotella T that is old. It is so old that the price is $6.99. Should there be a problem using it for an oil change? It has never been opened.

Sealed oil container will not degrade the product inside.
However, something to consider are the API ratings and standards of that era/age of oil versus the present ratings.

Once you've formulated your question ask the folks at Shell, here:
shelltechnical-us@shell.com

I had some questions and did receive a prompt and detailed reply.
I think this is the way to go.
None of us are lubricant experts, but you ask us we will reply as one...:D

Additives can settle out of suspension over a long period. Personally I would have no issue using it to supplement other oil, but wouldn't use it as a sole oil source.

Start by breaking out the owners manual to see what specifications your oil is supposed to meet, not just weight but all those other numbers too. The see if those numbers are on the oil you have.

I always shake bottles of oil up before using to re-mix any additives that have settled to the bottom of the bottle. I do this to ALL bottles of oil/atf, etc..., new or old since you never know how long something's been sitting on a shelf. If you don't the oil in the bottom of the bottle almost always looks different than the oil that first comes out. It's obvious the additives settle out in all bottles of oil.

I was an an auto parts store a couple weeks ago, and they had a bottle of the Mopar 8-9 speed transmission fluid setting on the counter. On the back of the bottle is said to shake well before using.
