Moving the Earth - Herbert Nichols is a superb, timeless book written when these old trucks were current models. Nichols described how to plan and accomplish major earthworks projects with the emphasis on the equipment used. I was given an old edition and found it so fascinating that I read it - over a thousand pages - cover to cover. Every page has practical advice. For example - don't try to extricate a stuck truck by simply pulling on it with something bigger. You will move the truck but its axles will be left behind. Reading between the lines it is clear that he learned his expertise in the field.
