Old Kerosene

Whats's the best way to dispose of approx. 3 gallons of +10 year old kerosene?

Burn it in an oil lamp or lantern.

Does it appear to be clean? If not, maybe it could be filtered and used in a heater. The heater in my barn burns K1, diesel or heating oil.

Or give it to someone with a waste oil burner.

Yea I think the tractor dealer's repair shop or any large auto repair would take it to burn in oil burning heaters. Mixed with 200+ gallons of oil no problems. I talked to this guy who worked for a chemical disposal company and they mix hazardous chems with safer stuff and burn it. I think I was expecting a longer drawn out answer to my "so what do you do with it" question.

For the winter, you could just filter a gallon or so to each 3 to 5 gallons of diesel and burn it in your tractor. It'll help to keep the diesel from gelling. In Vermont, they'll mix up to 50/50 kerosene/diesel in the winter time.

The kero is much less likely to have formed any gook in it like forms in the new gasoline blends. Just filter out most of the crude before putting it in your tank.

If you burn fuel oil, just filter it and put it in the fuel oil tank.

If it's dirty, just put some into your used oil that you take to the used oil recycle places. Their recovery equipment can handle some light ends like this, even dirty gasoline in the oil.

I dumped a few gallons of old kerosene in my diesel tank. It was mixed with about 260 gallons of fresh diesel.

Thanks for all the replies. I had thought of using it as fire starter at my camp, but would take about 2 lifetimes to use it up. After reading the ideas, going to run it through my Mr. Filter, mix it with some clean Kero and burn it in my jungers Space Heater.
