- Case 580B, Long 460, Allis-Chalmers 160
Hey - Admin's bugging me to introduce myself, so here goes. Guess I've been lurking long enough -
Name's Steve, I'm about to "retire", which I guess means working harder and longer for a more ornery boss (no, not my wife - me...)
We have 10 acres with a house, shop, couple of sheds, etc, an old Case 580B and an equally old Long 460 which I bought after trying for a year or so to figure out a PTO for the 580B that wouldn't interfere with the hoe ( I also have an original Case 3pt for the 580 (the older ones were based on the case 535 tractor and could be had with 3pt or even a rear fork lift)
I got the 3point attachment in a package deal from a parting out place in Nevada including a 7 foot Gannon box scraper with hydraulic rippers.
The Case 3PH has a 4 valve control so it does lift, pitch, tilt and a remote for the rippers or whatever, and has either float OR power down, but no draft control. Still, very flexible.
The Long 460 is big enough for my Priefert 6' tiller, and has a draft control but no FEL, and just a single rear remote.
I'm eventually planning to build a hydraulic tilt raised bed maker that will attach to receivers added to the tiller, so I can make 2-3 passes with the tiller then lower the bed maker and till one more pass covering both wheels while the bed maker's angled blades move the soft dirt at the outer edges of the tiller into a hill, then strike off and slightly compact the hill and put a planting furrow in the center.
Wife wants 4 foot pathways for her various carts, etc, so each pass will do a 2' hill with 2' flats on each side, this will give me a 4' path between rows. We have plenty of room in the new garden area, so this much wasted space won't matter.
Lots more plans, but this was SUPPOSED to be an INTRO :confused2: so I'll stop for now - Glad to be here among all these friendly folks... Steve
