Ok you old timers. What is this?

I found this metal piece today in a stone wall while I was working on my barn. What the heck is it?

Looks like some sort of a air intake for a motor to me .

that is exactly what I was thinking too. But what would it go on? Maybe an updraft carb?

My Dad had a old ( Pre God) trailer mounted generator that had a old "Hercules" hand crank engine on it .That lousy thing tried to break my arm more than once ! At least I think it was a Hercules /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It had something that looked like your picture for the air intake .

It looks like a spout from a old well hand pump.

I don't know how it was positioned in the wall, but it's an outlet (faucet) for a liquid handling system. The nub on the outlet end is there so one could hang a wire handled pail on it. Perhaps it was part of a rain water runoff collection system. Maybe there was once a cistern for the barn or it's just the business end of a hand pump well.

its obvious, its an offset adapter to go from round to square, or square to round.
