Ok...which is it? BX2350 or B7510?

Bob,
I have b7510/302 FEL and a 60" MMM. I was concerned about doing any other 3 Pt. work with the deck attached and my dealer/Mech. told me that the hyd system normally doesn't have enough "umff" to raise the deck to it's highest, pinable height. I take my floor jack and raise the deck the rest of the way and pin it up through the provided brackets. I had to fab some 7/16 pins which are a bugger to get in and out because of space. Though the ground clearance isn't near what it is with the deck removed, I can use my back blade and rake without the deck dragging and moving with the 3 pt.

BTW..... The 7510 mows well and is pretty manuverable for it's size. Works for me.

Vol, I can see your point about the box blade having more utility than a rear box for the added weight for an FEL. On the other hand, I went with a rear ballast box so I wouldn't need to take it off when I mow, or do anything that doesn't require the 3 pt. hitch. When I do mow, I can leave it on there. I also use the ballast box as a large tool box. As I mow, I often find trees, branches, etc. that need trimming. I carry in the ballast box my loppers, clippers, saw, etc. just for that purpose. It also has enough room to carry any garbage or small debris I want to throw in the trash. So, it really serves two purposes for me.

If FEL work and grading were my primary tasks, a box blade would have been the better option. Given that mowing, trimming, and cleaning the yard are primary, and FEL and grading are secondary, the ballast box gives me the best of both worlds.

I also believe (as do many others here) the BX is a better machine for "lawn work." It's a little smaller, so *it can get into tighter places

* I've done things with my BX23 that I just could not have done with a b series because of this.
There have been times when I could have used something smaller than my BX23.The 2 old Bolens Tractors and the wards power craft come in handy in such situations.

Thanks for that input, bigdad. It gave me some insight into how the mower mechanism and 3pt. hitch are related on a B model. Is yours a Turf Special or the standard version?

It's kinda like I feared; the tractor can do alot of things but, if you want to do anything besides mow, you have to find some way of dealing with the MMM. A RFM won't work well around all my trees and mowing will be a weekly affair; so managing the MMM is crucial. Thanks for the pin-up idea.

BTW, can the B7510/B7610 be fitted with a rear remote? The specs say the hydraulics have 'Front outlet' only. Always nice to have at least one rear remote on a utility machine.

Applicable to Turf Special only? I hadn't heard of that before, is this only with an implement attached or also with an unladen 3-pt?
Got me thinking now, but pretty sure I've pinned my 60" deck with a Ballast Box on the 3-pt of my B7610 before. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I just talked to one fairly knowledgable salesman. He thought the only thing needed was to pin the deck up in its full upright position on the turf special, much the same way as the standard B7510. He wasn't fully confident in his answer. Going to try another dealer to see what they have to say. I can't imagine the standard B7510 not being able to handle a 3 pt. load just because the deck is still on the mower. Doesn't make any sense. Ground clearance is the only issue, but that's true of all MMM tractors. Now the Turf Special with the special bracket on the 3 pt. arm raises some other questions I guess. I wish someone who owns a Turf Special would chime in and clear this up. I can't seem to send PM's. Someone get ahold of Chrishyde and see what's up with this unit. I've got one heck of a deal waiting on me if I can clear this matter up before Monday. Maybe even free shipping via a damaged semi trailer that is coming this way next week /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Maybe a little insight into folks choosing between the BX and B. The BX has an independent deck lift as far as I can tell. The B lift is generated by the 3 point via brackets on both 3 point arms. With the deck pinned up the 3 point is not lifting any of the deck weight. Shouldn't affect the lift capacity of the 3 point imo. It just goes to show that the BX is a better mower, designed from the start to be a mower first, tractor second. On the other hand the B is tractor first with the MMM an after thought.

Side note. Went to check out the JD 2305 today. Not impressed in the least compared to both the BX and B. I thought the Yanmar was crude sounding and vibrated too much for me. The tractor just didn't seem like is was near as nice as the BX. I think it is going to be about $2000 more to boot. I guess green paint still has its benefits. Stick with the orange. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can't say one way or the other on the sound of the 2305 engine, but looking at it myself in comparison to the BX 2230/2350, I had the same feeling--it just didn't seem as rugged or sturdy.

Maybe I am biased but I don't see the attraction. They are probably both fine machines. I will say this. Our local JD/Kubota dealer had the BX and the JD 2305, MMM, FEL side by side. I asked..'which would you buy'? He didn't hesitate to say the Kubota. Not because it was cheaper or better built, but he said he just didn't see the Kubotas once they left the lot. The greenies seem to want to come back home to visit when they don't feel well.

They used to have about 50/50 ratio of Orange to Green. Its about 80/20 now. They may be phasing out the Green so his comments may be tainted. I really get the impression that JD is coasting on their past reputation and owner loyalty.

Hope no JD lurkers are watching. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Besides, from everything I could tell, the Kubotas are ALOT less expensive. I was just reading a post from someone (on the JD forum) looking at a 2305, w/FEL and 54" mmm, for somewhere between $14 and $15K. He pointed out that this was with the quick attach loader, cruise and a ballast box. I told him I got all of that on my 2230, with a larger mmm, for $12,300. Once I discovered the prices, and had looked at the specs, I didn't even consider the JD anymore. Even if they are even in quality, I couldn't see why I should pay another $2,000 just to get a JD.
