Got the rebuild kits for my JD 420 loader. Took off one of the cylinders, removed the outer snap ring. Now what's holding the cylinder end in? I can rotate it but it won't come out.

Thanx

M.D.

Mighty Dodge,

Tap in gland below flush to expose groove on barrel inside tube, mix up plastic autobody filler "Bondo", fill groove with mixture, go get beer and relax for a few minutes (till it sets up).....yank out and you're out.....

you don't need to buy the OEM kit to do this;), been doing this for many years.....

He already has the seal kits...and they include the plastic "tool". Good idea though;)

OOOO-K

Got the orange ring in and it still won't come out. Starting to get pizzed.
I'm unable to get a good wrap on it, before it bottoms out against the gland it meets resistance like it's compressing air in the cylinder. I've considered trying to pull it apart using either a tractor or come along. I'm currently unemployed so I can't afford to screw this up...suggestions?

Get that orange thing out of there. Tap the gland down gently, there's an internal snap ring down there, I'm pretty sure of it. Bet when you pull the rod out, it stops dead at one point. The outer snap ring stops the gland from getting sucked into the housing, the inner one stops the gland from coming out. Kenny, can you confirm another snap ring by the parts breakdown?

EDIT, just looked closer at the original pics, probably not another internal snap ring. Push the gland in to be positive there isn't another snap ring. If there isn't, pull the rod out by any means you can.

The orange piece is in wrong. It should fill the gap in the cylinder wall so the ring (part #6) can slide right over it.

Check your PM's;)

It's not a "snap" ring...more like a "spring ring" that expands to fill the groove in the cylinder wall. The plastic shim makes it slide right over the groove.

Kennyd's right, the ring is round, you won't see it till its out of the barrel, the orange ring should be flush to allow the "round ring" to jump the groove....oh also before you tap in gland make sure the hyd rod is extended out (as to eliminate the air pocket when you yank the assy apart)....thats what is giving him the spongy effect....
