Getting ready to do my 50hr maintenance on my Ex3200. Just wondering what the best weight oil to use. I live in northeast Mn. and we don't have many days above 90 and when we do, I doubt Ill be useing the tractor.I use the tractor alot in the winter for plowing snow and it always starts with whatever weight oil it came from the factory with. Does anyone know what weight oil is shipped in these engines? Thinking about Shell rotella 10-30 but if these tractors come shipped with 15-40 that may also work. Just curious what the majority are useing in their unit. Thanks

I live in NE Ohio but only use the tractor in the summer for mowing. I use the same oil I use in my cars, for convenience - 5W30 - and have had no problems in a 1450 or a 3235.

Hey I f your tractor is new and under warranty use what your manual says. That way if the un-thinkable happens your covered, just my take.

The 10w-30 listed is based on average temperature ranges. One can use a lower viscosity when temps drop and a higher one when hotter. The 5w-40 covers all of that and is synthetic based, not the natural based stuff from the factory. It's the "C" rating that is the important specification, not the viscosity.

If anything "unthinkable" happens, an oil analysis will more than likely dispell any wrong doing from the oil, which for the most part, is hardly ever the cause, unless you put in straight 90 weight!

@Bob Bainbridge: please make sure the oil that you are using for your car has the "C" ( for diesels) rating as well as the "S" (for gas) located on the back lable of the bottle. If it does not contain a "C" rating, you must not use it in a diesel engine. Long term use will cause damage!

I'm in NE Ohio just changed mine the dealer said they use 15w-40 here but want 7.00/qt picked up Shell rotella 15w40 15.00/gal at auto parts store be sure to check the rating I think it required CF, you'll need a little over a gal.
