Oil mixed in transmission

I bought an 806 a year ago, the pto and steering started to go weak,had my repair guy look at this, he found a gell in the pto screen and inside the transmission... He said what the cause of this is gear oil and hyd. oil mixed... does anyone know what i can do to fix this..?

Why did the PTO go weak? It has little to do with oil. If the PTO is weak you have a clutch problem.

Now if you 3 point and steering are weak that makes more since.

I would start by draining all the fluid you can and running kerosene in the gear box for 5 minutes at low speed then draining again. This should flush 95% of it out. After that change out the fluid with the proper fluid and then change it again at 25 hours. This will remove 99.9% of all contaminates. The residual kerosene will evaporate off over time.

p.t.o has a screen in the intake side of it that keeps getting plugged with gell

I don't think you know your terms. The PTO is the short stubby shaft that you hook the drive shaft of implements to. PTO is power take off.

3point lift is hydraulic and utilize 2 lower lift arms and a center adjustable top link.

Some PTO's are driven with hydralics. Had the same thing happen to me when I lost the tranmission plug, drained all the oil, PTO stopped, power steering stopped, tractor was still goingShut it down, found the plug, repaced oil, everything was ok

I did not realize that but I think the OP has a Ford 806, just like a large 8N. It would not have a hydraulic PTO.

I guess its a Ford 806. He was not really clear what he had. Just stated a "806".:confused2:

other than a power-trak.. I can't think of many / any farm tractors with a true hyd pto.. IE.. hyd motor driving a pto.

I can think of hundreds of them that have an independent pto or similar that use a hyd valve to actuate the pto clutch engagement.. and without oil pressure ( oil ) then you have not pto.

not sure what an 806 is but it aint a ford ( 860 would be a ford )

IH/Farmall has an 806 and it would have an independent pto.. etc.

a gelled pickup screen on a hyd system that provided fluid pressure to a wetclutch pack would be an issue... etc..

i do know my terms, it is a 806 IH, pto lift arm power steering , brakes all get there oil in the same place, granted they have different pumps to do there own jobs, but my problems is in the main transmission all the gel plugs the screens to pto, steering, brakes, lift arms....any one have something close to this happen to them and what did you do to somewhat fix this, I do have a parts 806 IH but i dont wanna switch everything to the spare one if i dont have too. thanks for your help

Ok, once again the PTO has noting to do with the lift arms. The lift arms are part of the 3 point system.

Getting all the info and proper terms will help us help you.

I still stand by my earlier post to flush it with kerosene and then with clean fluid followed by a change again with clean fluid in 25 hours. LOOK AT POST #2.....

This method has been used for many many years.

The gel that you have sounds like you have bacteria contamination similar to what occurrs in diesel fuel. Drain all the oil, clean all the suction screens, flush the reservoirs with diesel or kerosene to try to remove all the sludge. Then refill with minimal oil to run for a few hours then drain again, check the screens and if clean, refill with clean oil. I think those 806 hold about 25 gallons of oil so I wouldnt fill but maybe 5 gallons of Hy-Tran for the flush. That should be plenty to work the pumps and drive it around preferable on some rough ground to slosh the oil around then drain it while hot to get all the sludge you can. I think the problem likely occurred because of some water contamination. Was the oil kind of milky colored when you checked it?
