In the JD retail store the other day and just when I thought I'd had all the maint. part numbers, oils, etc. down pat on my spreadsheet...I look over and see "JD50 Plus II". Where did the "II" come from? I guess it's the same stuff as the JD50 Plus, only more marketing meat to talk about. What's the difference?

I've been using JD plus 50 engine oil in my tractors since 1990 and I will continue using JD oils. This comes from JD's website-When used in John Deere engines with John Deere oil filters, drain intervals may increase 500 hours. See your dealer for specific application details.

The TorqGard Plus 50 II was designed for use in Interim tier 4 emissions engines. It is a low ash oil to prevent clogging of particulate filters used on the large (175+ HP) interim tier 4 engines. It also withstands higher temperatures and is a superb engine oil. It out-performed Rotella in Deere's extreme testing conditions. Great oil for any diesel engine.
