Oil ? for New Holland/Ford 2120

I bought a '97 New Holland 2120 with 105 hours on it. I need to change the motor oil and the manual specifies a SF/CD approval. I want to use 10-30 due to temperature swings in PA.

Does Rotella make a 10-30 (can't find it) and if not can someone give me another brand suggestion? Everything I found in that weight was labeled for gasoline engines and did not carry the SF/CD approval.

Check WalMart for Shell Rotella in 10-30, or their 5-40 synthetic, as a lot of guys use. The diesel rated stuff is usually off to the side of the regular oil display.

5w 30 synthetic is the way to go; easy starting in cold. Rottella available at Advanced Auto Parts.

For some reason my Wal-Mart only had Rotella 15-40. I use it in my Dodge Cummins and wanted to use it in my tractor, but temps here call for something a little thinner.

Does the synthetic rotella meet the SF/CD specification? If so, I would think that the 5w-40 would work the best for me year round, or am I wrong?

I'd use a synthetic 5w or 0w30. 0w30 Mobil 1 is what I'm currently running in my 4010.

The "CD" oil classification is very outmoded. The API classification that you should be looking for now is CI-4+ though some diesel engines currently manufactured call for CJ-4. However, there are issues with CJ-4 having sufficient additives for anti-wear and neutralization of combustion blowby gases that contain acid compounds. Not sure that 10W30 is available in Rotella T, 15W40 is the most likely you will find.

do you know the engine oil capacity. My Dad is thinking his book is mismarked it sats 8.5 quarts. that is 2.5 quarts over on the dip stick. Thanks for the help.

I can't believe it would be 8.5 quarts. Start with 3 quarts and check dip stick, continue to add till you get to full mark on stick. I know my 4 cylinder B3200 TLB oil cap. is 5.4 quarts.

gotta be a misprint.. my ford 5000 takes that much..

can't rememebr what my 1920 took.. but them lil engines likely don't hold more than 5-6 qts..
