Oil filter

This may seem like a "no brainier' to some of you but it's got me thinking. A friend of mine gave me two old but new oil filters that fit my Mountaineer. One of them AC Delco, has surface rust on the flange inside the seal area where the 6 holes and threaded center hole is. Not real bad but enough to concern me some. Now I don't know if the 6 holes around the center hole is pressure or return. If they are return then any rust particles will get picked up by the filter. If it's pressure they'll end up in the oil going to the engine. I'm torn between pitching the filter and using it. I hate to throw money away. Your thoughts?

i'd toss as well.... the engine is worth how much?

a new filter costs how much?

Why are you even asking???? You already know the answer. $4 oil filter versus a $2500 motor. Not worth it.

might be a 3$ ac delco filter (walmart) if it is one of the half tons..

The oil in a filter goes into the middle and out the holes.
Personally I would not use them.

The opposite is true, in thru the small holes and out thru the center.

OK, I'll pitch it. Believe it or not it is one of the older AC filters made in USA. Had a lot of shelf time.

Make sure its not one for a classic car. I know someone who spent several hundred $ to buy a AC Delco oil filter for his restored 1969 Camaro Z28. It had a date code on it that predated the car and was all original like they used at the factory.
