Excellent idea if there were room underhood. Saturn L-300's are often
fitted with the 3.0 liter V6 GM originally used in the Cadillac Catera, as well as several other models. The engine is very. very crowded into the compartment and I don't know where a relocation kit using a standard filter could possibly fit. The canister that holds the standard filter element is on the front of the engine next to an exhaust pipe, but thankfully, even with the front wheels on ramps, very little oil spills on the engine.

I had the SC2 so it was a different beast. Check on how the canister comes off, a lot of times a filter can still be screwed on after it's removed. Not sure on that motor though. For the most part I deal with Ford and v-8 GM's.
Happy hunting. :)

Fram used to be pretty good but no more.
The quality has dropped radically in the last 10 years. I had to use a Fram two oil changes ago on my 250,000 mile Volvo when I could not find any other brand without a week delay and after 3000 miles the oil was filthy. Went back to my standard brand and on the last change after 3000 miles the oil almost looked new. Don't know what happened to Fram but it is not the company it used to be. Even the metal is thin and cheap now.

I think JD has the filter cartridge not a filter canister.

There isn't much to a filter cartridge.... less'n you're thinkin they're using cheap paper???

Am I missing somthin?

You are correct, I am griping because of the inane prices for a filter cartridge...they are mostly paper, with plastic end caps, no metal at all. HTF can Advance Auto price the tiny things at $13? Jinman mentioned the K&N filter cartridge being $20, yes they are. NICE MARKUP.

Filters for lawn care equipment is just as much a ripoff. I was at Menards today, paid $7.98 plus tax for a 3X5 rectangular air filter for my Kohler engined push mower. Over at Lowes, the exact same item was $15.00. WHAT A RIPOFF.

Sometimes in the same store there are ripoffs and normal prices depending on where you look. I don't buy lawn mower oil filters off the special displays in the stores. Last year in TSC, I was looking at an oil filter for my John Deere LA145. The special display had one for around $12. I went to the Fram display in the back of the store and bought a PH8170 for about $7.95. I've noticed recently that even the Fram filters have taken a dramatic jump in price. Those PH8170 filters are selling for $8.95 to $9.95

Good point, I would love to be able to get a filter for my JD 4210 without paying the inflated price at the dealership, but I have only found one brand and model that are comparable and that one is very hard to find itself. Oil and air filters are pretty much a huge ripoff no matter what you need. The markup is inane.

The markup is why i try and buy it all on sale and buy lots then.

I do buy lots of stuff from rockauto. Never filters cause i try and get them all out of the same warehouse to get the best shipping deal. I get better parts than advance from rockauto for like less than 50% of retail.

A secret that many landscapers and your real parts guy know is that the B&S and Kohler filter and maybe others is the same as the saturn SL2 or SC2 filter or the toyota (for some applications at least my 01 highlander). It is the purolator 10241 for the #.

Rock auto has good prices but the shipping costs of what I need are way too high.
Auto parts warehouse while higher for the same items ends up being less with the free shipping. Just my .02 worth. :)

O'Reilly, NAPA, & Carquest all have Wix. I use them in my cars and tractors. I will use a Mobil 1 synthetic media filter in my cars if there is a oil change special going on.
